Hamburg And Amsterdam

#1

Post by 2006alfie »

can anyone give me any advice on these ports specifically how close to the city centres are the Cruise terminals are they within walking distance. We are doing a Christmas Markets cruise on Adonia in December and would prefer to do these markets on our own with more time than an excursion allows. Appreciate any advice as to walking, taxis or Public Transport.

Hi,

Firstly Hamburg - there are two terminals; Altona and Hafen City. Hafen City is closer to the city centre, but both are walkable to the town centre if that is what you are looking for. In Hamburg, maybe head for the Michel Church and there you will find the Krameramptstuben which is just about the oldest buildings left after WW2 - they are right close to the one end of the church. If you don't fancy walking, there are loads of regular water bus services whizzing around.

For both destinations, look at whatsinport.com .

Mostly in Amsterdam the berth used could be right by the main station - the other terminal has a regular bus service. If you are berthed right in the city, it's easy walking distance, and there's the usual hoho bus etc if you don't fancy walking.

Have a great time.

Em

Thank you Boris, that's very interesting. Reading up on Hamburg and it would seem that the main market is in the town hall square which looks walkable on the map.

Hamburg is ok-ish but Medieval Luneburg is a whole lot better when it comes to Christmas Market ambience ... P&O do ( did ) a trip Xmas 2012.

Also consider delightful Lubeck.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

There is a boat on the canal in Amsterdam which you can catch fairly close to the dock. That's what we did.
