The Azores

We're looking at a cruise to the Azores, the ports are Praia da Vitoria, Horta and Ponta Delgarda. Wondered if anyone has had experience of these ports and also what weather we could expect in October.

Ponta Delgada has little going for it except mist on many excursions, we have been there many times and it's always the same, a lesser relative of Madeira, which can also be misty but is usually warm at most times of the year.

We will be calling at Horta on our next cruise and, having looked at the tours, we will either have a stroll around there or stay on board. Notjing of a must do to interest us.

We have called at the Azores in October, November, January, February and March and the weather was the same each time; warmish but not great. The best weather was last year in early October n Madeira. These are island with mountains which attract rain clouds, that is why Madeira is so green.

It will always be warmer than the UK, whenever you visit, think lovely spring weather in the UK, or better, BUT, be warned, we were there a few years ago before the awful floods and it rained down in knitting needles all day.

Both Islands are stunningly beautiful so consider an Island Tour although the best time to go is actually in the early summer months when they simply abound in flowers.

DIY at little or no cost ...

There is a very pleasant walk in and around Ponta Delgada and the old whaling Port of Praia da Vitoria still retains the flavour of that industry so if scrimshaw is your bag ....
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Thank you for your replies. Still haven't finally decided on this cruise, it looked interesting as they were ports that we hadn't visited before. Have done a bit more research and found a company calling Amazing Tours which has had good reviews so something to bear in mind if we do decide to go.
