Agadir (push pineapple, shake the tree)
We have now booked the Aurora Christmas cruise for 2014, and one of the ports is Agadir. I've not heard of this as a cruise stop before- indeed P&O don't show it in their destinations info.
Has anyone ever been, and what tours can we expect - or is it worth doing it DIY?

Yes DN, thanks for that. I looked at that article a few days ago, just before we booked it.
I was wondering if there may be some tours up into the Atlas Mountains, which could be interesting/scenic.

We stopped there on a Thomson cruise - did an organised tour to one of the souks and stopped off on the way for moroccan tea etc. Would not have felt safe diy here.
The souk was a long way from the port and whilst there the guide (plus a few hangers on trying to get tips) left us for half hour or so to look around the relatives shops/stalls etc and it was rife with pickpockets. Interesting countryside with plenty of goats in the trees but would not hurry back lol.

It's over 20 years since we went there so things will no doubt have changed. I think it used to be a bunker port but not sure. We went on a trip to Tiznit which was a 'fort' town about 20k ? Into the desert. Was interesting and colourful. Then we went to the obligatory carpet factory. The guide clearly toed the party line politically...again that will have changed. The outskirts of Agadir was pretty run down with areas of very fine walled residences. We enjoyed it as a one off.

We had a more than interesting visit to Agadir which proved quite a relief from the dreadful food on Thomson Destiny.
After visiting the Grand Bazaar we headed for an outstanding marina where the atmosphere and food was brilliant.

I just looked at this and thought "has Romig finally lost it - we called there last Christmas?!" Then I noticed the original post was dated 2014 !
Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did

The dates of a OP comment are irrelevant. Surely when readers of this forum search for information on 'ports of call' any additional information or guidance can only be of benefit.Dancing Queen wrote:Obviously some people's minds aren't that 'alert' in the morningsqbman1 wrote:I just looked at this and thought "has Romig finally lost it - we called there last Christmas?!"
