I'm finding most of the characters ludicrous, and the situations they put them in are boring.

It could have been an interesting and entertaining show .... but it isn't.

I think I prefer the Fred Olsen series !

Any PR department that really believed this was going to be a "documentary" and good publicity probably needs a good clear out.

These programmes are almost invariably designed to be "entertainment" rather than anything too close to the truth. Would definitely be boring if they spent four hours watching us enjoying our cruise!

Same with Brett, the head chef.

it does seem to be getting plenty of social media coverage, so perhaps it is us who "don't get it"
after the belly flop contest and the mister lovely legs competition, Lady Dark commented that they had ruined a lovely ship and no, we are not going on it ....ever

it is almost a series of comedy sketches and as for the new quiz, it was trialled months before the programme on a med cruise

I have a great dislike for the Butlins at sea comments, as I feel it is lazy and trite to use it , however this is as close as it gets, having been to Butlins in a former life, this is close ...too close

Don't lots of ships have deck games...which taken out of context and filmed could look like Butlins.
Many have a ceremony crossing the equator ...P&O push the Captain in the pool !

Plus...you don't have to attend these events...so why would seeing people playing Bingo or roulette line dancing...doing a quiz...or deck games...put you off a cruise ?

The only deck games I've seen on P&O/Cunard are quoits and shuffleboard - but belly flop competitions? Knobbly knees (sexy legs, I think they called it) - NO.

Agreed, you don't have to go to these things, but if that's the sort of activity they provide, I have to wonder at the standard of the rest of it.

My husband has uttered the words 'We are never going on that ship' at least five times during tonight's episode of The Cruise Ship. I distinctly got the feeling we won't be booking The Royal Princess!!!

Well I thought it was a very good and exciting and thought provoking bit of television.

Sorry that was the advert in the middle.

Would puerile be a good word for it.

I think it is getting worse.

I recorded it so that I could skip through it. I found my recorder got stuck in the gym and kept re winding and playing the same bit over and over again. Phew what a body Dirk has.

Other than that bit it was rubbish. What's with the hats? I thought it was Cunard with hats not Princess. Got to say though that Atrium looks fab u lous.

Did I mention Dirks body. Phew!

I didn't get all this driving round in the buggy.

Everyone else managed to get where they needed to quite easily it would appear. Why did those two blokes have to 'get lost' in the buggy. It made them look ridiculous!

surely everyone featured must be regretting it by now

There seemed to be a few people wandering around - couldn't this hapless pair have stopped and asked for directions? A group of over 2,000 people on a half-mile beach surely isn't THAT hard to find?

After last night's episode we were trying to work out exactly what Princess were trying to do - who were they hoping the programme would appeal to? Or was it just Princess putting faith in the TV company - faith which was completely misplaced? If you take the stupid commentary away and the stupid comedian hamming it up would that be any better - with a different commentary? I assume Princess are hoping to attract new business - from whom? We have friends who have cruised with Princess for several years and they would never go with a company who are like Princess is portraying themselves. I'd like to know the reasoning behind it - assuming there is a reason.

I think John Thomsons voice over makes the programme more cringeworthy than it need be. A better voice over and improved editing would improve it no end.

Well that's the end of that

Interesting that they gave the impression that the ship only does a six month season and then everyone goes home until next season.

One thing that I did notice tonight was the sea screen - it looks far better than the one on Azura

Every sea screen is better than Azura. I didn't know they could make them that cheap.

As a comedy sketch on cruise ship life I guess the programme worked, but it really did nothing to encourage anyone to want to cruise with such crass British characters as they managed to find. I just wonder how many normal interviews with passengers ended up on the cutting room floor.
In the end I thought that deputy Dan, in his more rational moments, was perhaps reasonable cruise director material, after all they do need to have an extrovert personality to do their job.
Final score 5.5 out of ten, report comment could have done better.

Just watched all four episodes on Catch-up - it was more entertaining than anything else on TV tonight.

O.K,. it was presumably intended to be cruising as seen by the crew and if Princess were hoping to attract a few more Mushroom Mandys they may have succeeded but if they were hoping for more than that, probably not - I suspect that they will have turned off more potential cruisers than they have attracted. Wasn't George an excellent "crooner"? :sarcasm:

Not bad at all, reminded me of Jimmy Rivers, who used to do the cruise ship circuit before he retired a few years ago.

Just watched a re-run of Mighty Ships on the Quest channel, featuring a Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Epic. If Princess and Fred had done their documentaries in a similar fashion, it would have given a far better impression of cruising.
