Amsterdam Cruis Terminal
Where do the cruise ships dock in Amsterdam and how far away from picking up a river cruise trips. Is it easy to D.I.Y a river trip or stick with the P&O excursion.

The cruise terminal in the centre of Amsterdam is close to the river boat piers. But not all cruises go right into the city. Some dock outside the sea lock and bus people in

Thanks Merv. We are booked on a four nighter to Amsterdam and Brugge with a couple of friends on the 5th December and thought a river cruise might be a good way of seeing the City. But I like a bargain, and if I can do it cheaper than P&O all the better.

The river cruises are very easy to DIY and you can HOHO as you like although there are probably ones where you just cruise but we've only done the one where we have got off at various places ( saves on the shoe leather )
If you dock at the new terminal it is a very easy walk into the centre just watch out for all those 'cyclists' there are hundreds of them

We were there in June on a 5 nighter on Arcadia. They docked about an half hour walk from the centre of the city. However when you enter the cruise terminal you can book your river cruise at the desk and the boats are only about a 5 min walk. The walkway from ship to terminal is quite lengthy. The river cruise boats moor up closer to the railway station then the cruise ships dock a bit further down.
Have a lovely time.

I really hope that you have a great cruise, but be aware that sometimes during the winter months ships have problems getting into Amsterdam and simply don't get into port. So, fingers crossed for you; and hope you have a great time.
