I know the Moody Blues did a "concert cruise" a couple of years ago, and I would have loved to have done that.

I did one by "accident" a few years ago - it just happened to be a good itinerary and to be honest I did enjoy it - it wasn't too highbrow. Didn't attend all the classical concerts but thoroughly enjoyed the performance of a Gilbert and Sullivan opera with passengers taking part too - some very talented people out there.

I have been on four music festivals and would highly recommend them. The presenters are usually classic fm presenters but the programmes cater for all tastes. You will not be disappointed.

The reason that I ask is because I'm considering changing this years cruise to one a week later with this theme.

Same area (Canaries) 4 days longer, same money (well a few quid more but not much difference)

I've booked a superior deluxe balcony on Ventura and a balcony on Aurora is coming out the same on early saver.

I shall discuss with Mrs Barney when she returns from Exeter tomorrow, see what she thinks !

Been on 2 both due to destination and time of year. Not my bag but wife went to a few concerts and enjoyed them. I did go and see a four seasons violin thingy that was good.
I didn't find them intrusive and if our cruise this year was a music at sea cruise I would still have booked it.

I did one by accident. Like RB it's not really my scene but went to a couple of performances. One was a bit heavy for my taste but another one I really enjoyed.
Having said that it did not really impinge on the enjoyment of the cruise and I would have no fears about doing another one if the itinerary was going where I wanted to go.

We went on a classically theme one by chance and there was certainly plenty for non classical buffs to do too.

We went on one by accident rather than by design, twas on Artemis in 2009 - ish.

It may have been a dancing theme rather than a musical one but the style was deffo ' Big Band ' and we didn't enjoy it half as much as the ( even ) older passengers did. To enjoy our cruise to the maximum you needed to love Frank Sinatra and Swing Bands and be willing to dance 24/7.

Unlike Merv the Swerv we reported that there was sod all else to do if Frank and the Gang wasn't your bag.

I guess that may be related to ship size. The joy of the smaller ships is their intimacy. The downside is fewer venues so harder to escape the theme. Ours was on Aurora so there was always somewhere else to go.

We have been on several 'Music Festivals at Sea' and we love them. Generally a good selection of classical musicians including singers of a far higher standard than your normal cruise ship singer who belts out Nessun Dorma or O Sole Mio. But, if you are not in to classical music, all the other usual entertainers are also on board and you can ignore the theme cruise specials.

I've been on one music festival at sea cruise. When we booked, we didn't know it was going to be a festival cruise.

We sort of dipped in and out of the festival offerings, depending on what other entertainment was on. There were a couple of opera singers, and they did a show of popular opera songs, and Gilbert & Sullivan, which I thought was excellent.

I wouldn't book a cruise especially for the festival, but if it happened to be on, that'd be fine.

Well, I've gone ahead and done it.

I changed it on the weekend with my TA

I'm sure it will be a good cruise, as so far, all have been.

We've taken a balcony guarantee on the early saver deal, so hopefully we'll be allocated Freedom, but if not, it's not the end of the world.

Works out at £81 a night for a balcony cabin. A long way short of my best ever deal, but I'm still pleased with that.

This will be or first time on Aurora.
Big plus is that we will be dining in Sindu on my 60th.

Good advice is that, we also noticed that the waiters tend to shout in Sind(h)u
