Do we need a new doctor?
The GP has just sent out several links by SMS to the good lady with a note saying to read these and if she can find out who she needs to be referred to or any other treatments then she is to let the GP know. Yes her issue is very rare and very few GPs will ever encounter it throughout their career, but I had expected better.

I would say that you do but you are of course entitled to a second opinionKendhni wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 13:44The GP has just sent out several links by SMS to the good lady with a note saying to read these and if she can find out who she needs to be referred to or any other treatments then she is to let the GP know. Re: Do we need a new doctor?
Perhaps I am missing something here (not unusual) but isn't that the job of the doctor to find out who she needs to be referred to?
Would any other doctor be any better - you could try Doctor Who!!

Sounds a bit unusual Ken as normally GP’s can’t wait to offload you onto someone else, be it A&E or a referral. Perhaps she should reply saying she’s found a consultant in Harley Street if they wouldn’t mind covering the costs.

You would have thought so. I have contacted my private medical insurance but they can't help without a referral.
Next time I am marrying someone who only gets diseases like the common cold.

Hi Ken,
There are specialist nurses who have a lot of influence with doctors and consultants so it might be worth giving your local hospital a call to see if they can move things along for you both.
Whatever Julie is struggling with please pass on my best wishes…if Julie asks who's sending them just tell her they are from the good looking chap she met on Adonia

But they should be able to point you in the right direction as a starting point, gastro for example. Then go back to the Doc and request an ' open ' referral for that specialty.

That is what I thought we might be able to do but it just doesn't work that way (especially when an insurance company is footing the bill). Her GP is still waiting for the notes from A&E which seem to be stuck in the system because nobody knows which department the notes should be sent from - and as is typical when given the choice no departments seems to want to take ownership.Manoverboard wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 06:39But they should be able to point you in the right direction as a starting point, gastro for example. Mrs S said, complain to your local clinical commissioning group (CCG)

It shouldn't be, the preliminary report has been sent to the GP it is the final notes that have not arrived. Even at that it was us that had to track the report down and insist a copy be emailed to the GPs surgery.Manoverboard wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 08:33You didn't mention that ... it's all on hold until the notes arrive then.

We are talking of the civil service here ... apparently they are still in talks about the scope of talks that will be used to figure out how to work the new fangled technology they have just spent millions on - apparently it is called an abacus. They are waiting to recruit several members of friends and family, aka consultants, to show them how to use it - the average civil servant struggles with the concept of moving a bead from the left to the right although I believe that after 2 years they did master the moving from right to left (and that was only after they employed bubbles the chimp from the zoo to show them how to do it).

Re: Do we need a new doctor?
I have had dealings with my gp in the last few months, due to side effects of the astra zenica jab. It's all done by accessing their web site, they then ring you to discuss your symptoms. In the end I had an emergency eye appoint followed by a ct scan for severe headaches. Waiting for the result.
I am at a loss to see now when the majority of adults have had both jabs why they are not co ducting more consultations in the surgery.

Re: Do we need a new doctor?
A lot of GPs seem to treat their patients in the the same way P&O customer services treat their passengers; an annoyance that prevents them from having a quiet life.Whynd1 wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 09:40I have had dealings with my gp in the last few months, due to side effects of the astra zenica jab. There has to be a Health and Safety evaluation done first and even after that staff have to wear appropriate Hazmat protection.Kendhni wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 09:15We are talking of the civil service here ... apparently they are still in talks about the scope of talks that will be used to figure out how to work the new fangled technology they have just spent millions on - apparently it is called an abacus. That would explain why they are taking so long about it.Quizzical Bob wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 12:32There has to be a Health and Safety evaluation done first and even after that staff have to wear appropriate Hazmat protection.

From what I gathered from my GP visit recently, they were planning to start getting back to normal but because of the rise in COVID cases again it’s been put on hold.
My own opinion is, I don’t think it’s a question of actually seeing your GP, it’s more a case of having large numbers in a waiting room. Our waiting room could end up with standing room only when busy. I guess it will vary from practice to practice depending on the set up.

They could quite easily control it - one out, one in. The problem comes when the whole family turn up when one of them has an ingrowing toenail!

Re: Do we need a new doctor?
Even before covid all our GP appointments had to be booked by phone or online, so the waiting room was never full to capacity.

Re: Do we need a new doctor?
Yes they have arrived ... some other updates
- a UK wide charity that provides support gave her the underwhelming advice of looking on Facebook
- she now has written referrals from her GP for multiple departments
- my medical insurance will not accept the referrals (rolls eyes) but insisted on a video appt with one of their GPs, who told her he had never come across it before and didn't know what to do so he would consult with colleagues and get back to her
- a friend of a friend of a friend who is an optometrist has offered to see her (awaiting appt)
