I doubt that we will be prepared to pay a premium for the maiden cruise, but we will certainly be looking at taking an early one just as we did with Britannia.
I just hope there will be a heck of a lot more "WOW" factor with it than there was with Britannia.

We've done two maidens which we enjoyed but not sure if we'll rush to do another. Wait to see where it's going I think.

Cubie I have been on ships of all sizes from 670 passengers up to Britannia's 4300 plus and there are far more similarities than differences, so that bloody great thing will hold no concerns for me.

My wife and I are long time cruisers with p&o (our 17th is coming up with Britannia in may!) - we’re thinking about getting our place on one of her first cruises (wife wants to do the maiden).

Does anyone know any more about what it will be like? / thinking of booking or staying away? Our favourite ship is oceana - but don’t mind a big ship if it’s out of school holidays!

Any advice appreciated!

I think we are all waiting for more information from P&O about what the new ship will look like, there is some limited info on the website at present which offers tantalising glimpses of what might be in store. But with a cruise line that can take an amazing ship like the Royal Princess and turn it into bland Britannia, I fear it may well be another damp squib.

Personally I avoid maiden cruises, I like to let the ship bed down for a few months. You will enjoy Britannia, she is an excellent ship.

We went on the Britannia maiden and enjoyed it. We intend to go on this new ship in 2020, but later in the year maybe Sept to Oct.

We are on little Boudicca in March/April 2020 when the new ship is likely to be launched, anyway.

Ir'll be interesting going from a little ship to a mega ship.

I watched a fascinating You Tube video showing the building of AidaNova, a close cousin of the new P&O ship, picked it up from a link on CC's P&O forum.
Amazing watching the time lapse assembly of lots of the sections being lowered into position, and seeing the ship gradually take shape, it was built in 2 halves in the same assembly building and then the 2 sections were moved to a bigger building for final assembly and fitting out.
Not sure how long the whole process takes, but I think the first steel will be cut sometime this year and they will then begin building the sections, and sometime in 2019 assembly will start, in the dry dock.

I suppose when you think about, Ventura/Azura will be medium size ships in the near future  , not sure about the maiden until I've seen the itinerary and dates etc

According to a Bolsover e-mail the provisional name given to the new ship by P&O is Olympia.

That has been around for a long time and I suspect that it is probably the project name for the ship. Far easier to say "Olympia" than "the new ship coming in 2020"

I think the project name was Gala, but you're right it may not end up as Olympia.

The latest blurb on the P&O site site says it's going to Wow us with new cruising experiences, however it then goes onto say "And rest assured, our P&O Cruises DNA will still shine through. You’ll be treated to the best British hospitality and standards of service that you know and love."
I think I would prefer to have some Wow in the standards of service as well, rather than still have the current ones.

I cannot understand why when you look at what other lines of the Carnival family offer in facilities and technology that P&O is so far behind
