Aurora tenders be aware
Just back from Aurora cruise R407 wonderful cruise and weather. But the tenders are a serious health hazard. Whilst sitting in the tenders waiting for them to fill up with passengers very toxic black exhaust fumes (Because they left the engine running) was filling the small boat choking people and as my wife has asthma this was very concerning be aware. P&O must do something about this.

I agree black smoke is a nasty problem. On the other hand turning off the engine would also be a major hazard, since they keep the propeller turning with appropriate helm applied to pin the tender against the pontoon.

Re: Aurora tenders be aware
The P&O response to my email.
Whilst I am pleased you enjoyed your time on board I am sorry you found the fumes from the tender uncomfortable, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Whilst I appreciate your comments I would wish to assure you our tender boats are regularly maintained and serviced and there would certainly have been no cause for health concerns, I have however made our Technical Team aware of your concerns.
They most certainly were a health hazard

At least a reasonably prompt response, Orpheus, and saying pretty much what you might expect, I suppose. You could always follow up and enquire as to what response they received from the Technical Team but I think you have probably made your point.Orpheus wrote:The P&O response to my email.

Yes I think so as well even there own staff had to wear masks kaymar and I noticed that the really bad tenders 9 & 10 were taken out of service so they obviously knew they were a health hazard.

Having said that I would, if push came to shove, prefer to take my chances with the fumes than not have a lifeboat.

Re: Aurora tenders be aware
On Aurora at Flåm recently, announcements were being made about the tendering arrangements for those partaking of organised tours. The announcer then said:Mervyn and Trish wrote:Well that is of course the Costa way!
"Will passengers going ashore independently, please be aware that".........there was a brief pause - and I was half expecting him to add .........."the water is very cold!"
Actually he went on to explain that boarding tickets would be required for tenders if you were not going on an organised tour...
But having experienced the smoke in the tenders, I'm not sure which was the better option!
