I have said this before and I will say it again - this is all a "cunning plan" for Carnival to get a foothold in Cuba and then get sole rights for cruise ships to visit. Using probably the smallest ship that Carnival has is a good means of testing the water - literally.
Interesting. I hadn't thought of that but it is feasible and may explain why Carnival is treating cruises there as part of a social experiment.
"Social experiment" my a*se ! Carnival are only trying this as they think they can make an extra bob or two - or, as the Smurfmeister says, get them a foothold into a lucrative new market
That's what I said. I was being facetious.

I noticed on P&O Facebook they've announced that Adonia is staying with Fathom until the end of 2017

After that..... Who knows

Interesting to read that Adonia is expected back. We haven't been on her, so hopefully will get the opportunity in due course............. :)

Hello everyone, My first post on this site. I saw a tweet early this week from fathom which said they were extending the bookings to the end of 2017 so presumably this means she certainly won't be back until at least 2018. Big shame I think. My husband and I adored her.

Last time we were on Adonia, one of the senior officers told us that the plan was that if fathom didn't work they would return Adonia after the trail period but that if it took off then they would put a bigger ship on it so the plan was to return Adonia anyway. Who knows ?!

She's not in the 2017 schedule so whatever is or isn't planned they're playing their cards close to the corporate chest. We're booked up for 2017 anyway, but hope she's back for 2018, hopefully after a good refit

They'll probably have to muck her out and hose her down before they can even start the refit!

She did have a bit of a re-fit in Bermuda before going to fathom. I heard they were planning to replace the Italian restaurant up top with a Glass House - so very much in P&O style

We were told that the refit in Bermuda was to take place later this year, after the Fathom 'experience'.

She was definitely in there for a week BF (before fathom!) as we know the father of one of the junior officers on board at the time. Maybe another visit is planned to scrape off all that Cuban Mud and P&O-ise her again ?!

Fathom cruises are now on sale in the UK:

Looks like they will need a bigger ship - can we have our Adonia back, please ?!

She does alternate Cuba (3 port trips) and Dominican republic (4 nights at Amber cove) sailings. We are due to stop at Amber cove in 2018 and I was checking for reviews on CC and picked up a couple from Fathom passengers, waxing lyrical about the bathing and bars at Amber Cove, so clearly they don't spend all their time on humanitarian 3rd world projects, and from these reviews I doubt they bring much Caribbean mud back on board.
