Just booked a sneaky one !

#1

Post by barney »

In a moment of madness, I've just booked a 5 day short cruise on Azura at the end of August.
It has an overnight in Amsterdam, which we've never been to and then Le Havre for Honfluer which we love.
It will be first time on Azura as well.
Where does the ship dock in Amsterdam?
Walkable into town?
Empty vessels .. and all that

Whenever we've been it has been central and walkable. But sometimes they dock further out. Probably need to check with P&O

Assuming you dock at the new(ish) cruise terminal it's a very easy walk 10-15 minutes to the railway station and from there you are basically across the road from the city, a nice way to see Amsterdam is from the river and you can hop on and off as you wish.

I believe there is a public bus which you can take from outside the terminal but I have no idea how frequent they are.

Yesterday, I booked our trips for Honfluer via the cruise personaliser on the P&O site

£45 each, which I thought seemed a bit on the dear side considering the distance. We do get our discount off this.
Still, as Mrs Barney says, it is what it is. Take it or leave it.

Hoping it's a sunny day in such a beautiful place

All the French excursions are on the pricey side, must be to do with tour guides and fuel etc.

We are there in June but have elected just to wander around Honfleur. We have booked an excursion in Bordeaux which includes wine .

The Heineken Experience would have been an excellent trip which you can do on your own from the ship, but I doubt you will have time to do both.

More of a Sancerre or Chablis man myself, these days Stephen, but still partial to the odd beer.

We have a vineyard tour of Chapel Down , booked for July 8th.

Should be a nice afternoon out.

Three course lunch followed by a tour.

Who's driving ????

Not me !

The Heineken Experience is a great place to visit with so much interactive things to get involved with. You also get two free bottles of Heineken at the end in the bar. If you ever get a chance to do it I can thoroughly recommend it. When we booked our tickets online it also included a 30 minute river trip which you pick up right opposite the Heineken Experience venue. Great value.
