Thomas Cook
Looks as if the proverbial is about to hit the fan anytime now - unless someone has a spare £200 million in their back pocket (and if I did then I doubt that TC would be the beneficiary!)
If I remember correctly this saga has been ongoing for several months (years?) and it is something of a miracle that it has survived this long.
Feel sorry for anyone on holiday, about to go on holiday or have a holiday booked with them. It just enforces my view never to book with any travel agent, having been there once.

Booking with a TA is fine but a better plan is to pay by Credit Card …… having taken a go nowhere ABTA claim route.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Re: Thomas Cook
I'm thinking of the flights as P&O, Fred Olsen etc use TC for some of them

Whilst it gives protection it does not negate the hassle and stress involved.Manoverboard wrote: ↑20 Sep 2019, 12:23Booking with a TA is fine but a better plan is to pay by Credit Card …… having taken a go nowhere ABTA claim route.
As TC have been having problems for many months I would make a guess that companies that use TC flights, such as P&O, will have some basic contingency plans in place.

You are perhaps giving P&O a little too much credit for forward planning David!david63 wrote: ↑20 Sep 2019, 13:00Whilst it gives protection it does not negate the hassle and stress involved.Manoverboard wrote: ↑20 Sep 2019, 12:23Booking with a TA is fine but a better plan is to pay by Credit Card …… having taken a go nowhere ABTA claim route.

P&O have already made contingency plans in the event of TC going bust. It's not a worry.

Eeeek, got a cruise booked with TC for next June so hope all ok but presumably PO will take over the booking. However, it is the lovely staff in the Thomas Cook on the Island that I feel sorry for. They are a lovely bunch and really friendly and helpful.

Re: Thomas Cook
We subjected ourselves just one TC flight years ago - once was enough! We booked our own flights thereafter!
I do feel for those affected though, both passengers and staff.

Maureen, we had a cruise booked with an agent who went 'bust' a few years ago ( can't remember the name now ) the booking was just passed to the cruise line so I assume the same will happen with your booking if TC go under.

Re: Thomas Cook
Our QM2 cruise next year is booked through Thomas Cook but since all its elements including the flights are part of a Cunard package I'm not worrying. We've only paid deposits so far in any case.

Re: Thomas Cook
The biggest problem that Thomas Cook will face in the future, even if they get extra funding, is whether people will continue to book holidays with them. So if the government bails them out with a loan this time will this problem crop up again in the not too distant future.

Re: Thomas Cook
Very sad to hear that Thomas Cook has now gone into liquidation.
Over the years we have booked many holidays with them and they have delivered on every single occasion (nothing more than a few minor niggles which the rep on site sorted out).
Now I just need to figure out how to get my deposit back on the 2 holidays we currently have booked with them.

I see that P&O have been quick off the mark to reassure their customers - https://cruise-community.me.uk/viewtopi ... b7c9b6143f

Azura Horizon.
To Mervyn and Trish
I have just returned from holiday on the Azura, and your picture was on the Horizon for photographs on Black Tie night, just to let you know.

Excellent! We thought they'd stopped using it as we didn't see it during our cruise earlier this year. It was taken during the Maiden Cruise 9 years ago and they've used it since. We don't look that good now!

I think you'll find that is the 'wanted list' and they were mug shots

He was a mug if he did not secure image rights and a hefty discount on future cruises.
