I'm not so keen on Nigel Travis, although we never saw much of him.

My particular favourites are Neil Oliver and Leon de Ste Croix.

Neil knows how to whip the crowd into a party frenzy at the sailaway, but these days I think Leon just has the edge - he makes me laugh more

They are my favourites too,i totally agree with you

We're not at all keen on Nigel Travis, only time we ever saw him was standing outside the theatre saying "Good evening" a couple of times. Neil Oliver is brilliant, really liked him. Tracey Clegg was good on Adonia last year. On these sort of posts nobody ever mentions Jon Bartram. He was CD on one of our cruises soon after he started with P&O and we were not very impressed at all, however a few years later we sailed with him again and found him to be a really nice guy.

We can go on a cruise and come home again and still not know who the Cruise Director is/was ... somebody please tell me why I need to know, just in case I've missed something

Ditto the Captain, Purser and the Chief Engineer etc.

To be honest, the cruise director/entertainment manager probably doesn't make THAT much difference to the cruise.

But, if you get one the you perceive as 'good', whether it's entertaining announcements, or an enthusiastic Sailaway host, it's just a nice little enhancement to the experience.

But it's not make or break!

I think if you have a lot of sea days, as on a transatlantic it does help if you have a 'good one' especially if the weather is not too great! Doreen

If it doesn't affect you, then you don't need to know!

But we find some cruise directors irritating and some ineffective.

Example of the first (not by name but by action) is one who treated the cruisers like badly behaved children. May have been a head teacher, or scout/guide leader in a previous life.

Example of second, one who stood at the side of the theatre and watched a family who disrupted the shows repeatedly by heckling night after night, but did nothing.

Thank you ... that's what I thought.

re sea days ...

I can certainly appreciate that umpteen of them on a stretch could necessitate the need for organised collective activities etc but of course we are not at all keen on sea days. When they do arise then it's food 'n' Kindle time for us ... could it be that we are of a generation who could amuse themselves rather than needing an on tap Arkala or some such ?

Each to their own, hope you get a Good en.

Nope ... or shuffle board competitions, deck quoits, simulated golf, quizzes, sequence dancing nor indeed synchronised raspberry blowing. We do however enjoy some of the talks, most of the entertainment plus all of the itinerary, eating and drinking ... and of course the people we meet hither and thither.
