Taking booze on board.
A post on Facebook led me to look at the P&O faq page on taking booze on board. This has now changed to say that only 1 bottle per passenger will be allowed on embarkation day only. Bottles bought in other ports will be stored and returned at the end of the cruise.

Here's the relevant page:

Wonder whether they will actually enforce it ?

Must be a fairly new addition - I haven't seen it before. Surely it would hold up embarkation if everyone is being frisked for booze - I can foresee chaos, particulalry at tender ports !

Re: Taking booze on board.
We tend to take a box of red and white for consuming as and when on the balcony through out the cruise and a bottle of bubbly for the first day. What's the worst that can happen, they take the excess at security or wherever and return it on disembarkation. No big deal.

Be interesting to see how they would treat a wine box - would they siphon off two-thirds of the contents and just leave you with a bottle's worth ?!

I'd just drink the excess to the correct level. What worries me is what type of dip stick he or she would use

They have always said that they reserve the right to hold any booze brought on board but the new wording is a bit more specific. I still question whether it will actually be enforced

Re: Taking booze on board.
It reportedly starts in February, two bottles on a 14 day cruise seems OK for me, but not for our Feb 35 nighter.
This is bringing them in line with most other cruise lines and will be alright if they also improve the loyalty scheme to match other cruise lines. Lower threshold to reach Caribbean, 3 free drinks per person everynight for Caribbean level, simlilarly free minutes or days wi fi, all loyalty members to board anytime at their convenience.
Somehow I don't think I will be holding my breath.

It comes into force on 1 Feb next year. Also from 1 Jan they will be enforcing the dress code.

Re: Taking booze on board.
Just reading some of the official announcements they seem to relate primarily to short break "party" cruises, I wonder if the rules relating to alcohol will be more relaxed for longer cruises?

I don't suppose Carnival Corp has anything to do with it, leaning on PandP to fall in line with all the other Carnival cruise lines.
Don't worry, be happy

Re: Taking booze on board.
Perhaps this is a prelude to an announcement of booze packages similar to those offered by Celebrity and RCI. Hopefully they will be included FOC for those who book early, Of course the large OBC will no longer apply.

Fine for those who like a drink or three but if, for whatever reason you cannot drink, the OBC option is better. Just use your OBC to buy the booze.Ray Scully wrote: ↑09 Nov 2017, 20:37Hopefully they will be included FOC for those who book early, Of course the large OBC will no longer apply.

Re: Taking booze on board.
I hope P&O do not commence offering drinks packages, since Celebrity introduced them we have seen drink prices sky rocket. There is no way we could drink enough to make purchasing one worthwhile, and if we did we would be drop down drunk, even when we had a free drinks package our consumption remained low. My assumption is that the price increases are to cover the higher cost of the free drinks packages and I am not happy at subsidising those who have the free drinks.

...and just who will be enforcing that then, Merv? Presumaably the same person who is responsible for ensuring that sun beds are not reserved?!Mervyn and Trish wrote: ↑09 Nov 2017, 17:31It comes into force on 1 Feb next year. Also from 1 Jan they will be enforcing the dress code.

The dress code is easy. Just stick a bouncer on the restaurant doors with a clear instruction and a script:qbman1 wrote: ↑10 Nov 2017, 13:05...and just who will be enforcing that then, Merv?
