Cruise Critic forum

#1

Post by barney »

Has anyone else noticed that the Cruise Critic forum has been down since the 9th October.
I sometimes flit in to see what people are moaning about this week.
It's not just P&O, it seems to be all of the forums.

No they announced that there was an upgrade taking place that would be a few "short" days. Apparently it is due to be back up sometime today.

I find it somewhat hilarious at the comments that people are going on a cruise in two weeks time and they cannot access CC - what did they do before CC?

I am amazed by some of the questions asked on the forums, often at very short notice. It's not just cruising either.

Maybe I'm an oddball checking trivial details like the itinerary before I book. Or because I like to plan things in advance.

But I still cringe at questions like "I'm going on a cruise this Saturday, where is the best place to park"?

Or "Does anyone know what the entertainment will be in six months time"?

Or "Does the cruise price include food"?

And I've seen all three.

Yes (well somebody somewhere will know) but we are not telling you!

I used to have a work colleague years ago Merv, who would go on holiday without knowing any details.

The conversation would go like this
Me- going anywhere this year?
Him - yeah!
When?
Oh in June.
Where?
Not sure, Sarah has booked it
So, you are going on holiday but have no idea where you're going?
Yeah!
You don't even know what country?
No!

A couple of weeks later he'd say Oh! by the way, we're going to Greece.
Lovely, I'd say. where in Greece?
Erm! not sure!

And so it went on right up until the day.

When they went to Canada, I asked who he was flying with.
No idea.
Gatwich or Heathrow?
No idea.

Honestly, it was amazing.

So I do see your point.

I'm like Merv ( but better looking and miles younger of course) and like to have everything squared away well before we travel.

Barney has reminded me of a similar conversation I seem to have frequently.

Friend: We're going on a cruise next week

Me: Which ship?

Friend: Errrrrm. I think it begins with an A.

Me: Which line?

Friend: Errrm. I think it might be Thomson

Friend's wife: Actually it's QM2.

Well its back up but running very slowly as though they have greatly reduced their servers, and it's returning lots of error messages.
Not a great start to say that it's been down 7 days.

They have changed software and I suspect that it has not been optimised yet

They now seem to be using Invision Community software, which is also used by Bolsover's forum, but not very successfully.

It's back this morning. It all seems a bit pale to me and the text is quite small. Not a patch on this site!
