Cruise lines drop Amsterdam.
Following a decision by Amsterdam to impose a day tourist tax of 8 euros per passenger on all cruise ship visits not using Amsterdam as a turnround port, CMV have dropped it from their future itineraries and MSC are also considering doing the same. Although cruise passengers only make up 1% of total tourists they already pay 43% of all the tourist revenue from port charges.

After Brexit they'll be doing Hull and Grimsby instead anyway. I'm sure someone there will be doing the wacky backy.

Re: Cruise lines drop Amsterdam.
We had an unusual situation in Amsterdam about 18 months ago.
We had an over night stop there on Azura.
When we arrived it was early afternoon and the ship announced that all passengers would need to be checked by Dutch immigration before disembarking.
They were doing it by deck, starting at the top and working down.
We were on B deck so we thought, this shouldn't take long.
It appeared that the Dutch has grossly under estimated the volume of passengers and how long this would take.
After an hour, they were clearly struggling so made the decision to abandon the whole thing and just let every one off.
As for this tourist tax, well 8 euros isn't the end of the world but if cruise companies decide on a boycott, it may well cost them financially.
Maybe a decrease in tourism is what they actually want.

Re: Cruise lines drop Amsterdam.
We're booked on a cruise in May on CMV's Columbus, and Amsterdam is on the itinerary.
Believe it or not, Amsterdam one of the main reasons we booked the cruise, as we want to go to the Kerkenhof Gardens in springtime.
Will have to see how this affects us - if Amsterdam is replaced by Rotterdam, we'd still be able to go to Kerkenhof. We are due to pay the balance in late January, so I would expect to be advised by then

Excellent choice and I would expect your cruise to go to Rotterdam as this is the normal alternative for Amsterdam.Gill W wrote: ↑21 Dec 2018, 16:03We're booked on a cruise in May on CMV's Columbus, and Amsterdam is on the itinerary.
