Re: Formal evenings
When I wrote this post it was very "tongue-in-cheek" and I'm amazed at the strength of feelings it has aroused. If I continue to post (inadvertently, of course) such contentious communications, am I in danger of attracting this kind of notoriety?bassman67 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2020, 23:01I've been away from the Forum for a couple of years so I'm catching up on some topics that never seem to change. Am I the only one that misses the authorative comments of " Content deleted ' on such matters.
Sorry to delete the ' Member's name ' but the whingeing masses below are picking holes in my actions

On a completely different tack, I've not seen a reference to "ModPlod" since my my days at AWRE in the 80's. Maybe sometimes derogatory, but always used with affection!

We love the mod Plods really, but you have to set a trap to see if they pick it up. Full marks to the plod for spotting it, just doing his duty.
Don't worry, be happy

I wonder if they wear the obligatory size 12 boots and flex their knees as they say "ello ello ello"?

Re: Formal evenings
I’m quite happy with formal evenings- but then I always had an indolent streak as my form tutor regularly reminded my parents in his annual report. Suit, white shirt ( wing or ordinary?- that’s about the level of decision making I can cope with at 6:20pm,) bow tie & black shoes. ...& we’re off!

I get to choose the colour of the bow tie too, so long as it matches what SWMBO is wearing.

Re: Formal evenings
I'm a little confused, but the Forum seems to have stolen an old-established acronym with "modplod". I finally realised that in this scenario it must mean a "moderator/regulator", whereas in a past life, it was a member of the Ministry of Defence Police Force

Re: Formal evenings
No nothing new, it’s a topic that constantly re-appears on cruise forums, but attitudes change and evolve.
I enjoyed the formal evenings 25 years ago, the evening was special now not so much.
Times are changing and I now much prefer the so called “country club casual” style.

Re: Formal evenings
I enjoy both. I like smart casual but like it when the ship takes on a different complexion on a formal night, with a menu in the dining room to match. Once they do away with formal night that will be me done with cruising. P&O seem to have the balance about right, for me.

I like both too. What I hate at dinner is digging the garden casual or dressed for the beach casual.

Re: Formal evenings
There's such a wide choice of 'Casual' wear that can be worn in accordance with the dress code that some people will dress quite smartly and others much more casually. It's always seemed to me that it's the women who tend to 'dress up' whereas some of the men, abiding by the dress code so no criticism implied, by wearing things like a loose short sleeved shirt and jeans don't seem to match somehow. This may of course just be my way of looking at it.

Re: Formal evenings
I find some women's idea of formal attire a bit strange sometimes. As for food to match, mmm, debatable especially the so called gala evening where the same old beef wellington comes out. Nothing gala special about it for me.
