P and O pauses again

#1

Post by Whynd1 »

I see P and O have paused operations now until the 31st July.
Not unexpected.

That probably means no cruises until Nov/Dec at the earliest.

Good job I did not pay the balance for our 11th July cruise then.

I wonder when Iona will be launched?

Princess announced earlier this month that they are extending their pause’ until the end of June.

Our cruise to Spitsbergen that we booked using the credit from our curtailed cruise in February is one of the casualties of this. If we don’t ask for a refund then we will get the cost of the cruise as a future cruise credit plus a 25% top up. This sounds ok until you realise that the cost of any future cruise will more than eat up the increase.

That's the end of our cruise.

A friend of ours has also had their cruise cancelled and was thinking of using the FCC to come on our 2021 cruise, but it's gone up £500 since yesterday. It seems what P&O are giving in one hand with FCC they are taking in the other by hiking the prices up.

It's almost inevitable that prices will go up after this. At the moment there are not a lot of cruises on sale so it is a question of supply and demand, but it may change when the next batch of cruises for 2022 are released.

At the moment we're holding off rebooking our New York QM2 trip for May 2021. No idea what the world will look like by then or if we'll be able to get insurance. If we lose the deposit from this year that they've carried forward so be it. Their prices are up too. Yes, supply and demand and they'll be trying to recoup losses. Can't really blame them.

Very pleased to hear Paul Ludlow say that you can now use your FCC to upgrade a current booking so with a bit of luck we might be able to use it to upgrade our Christmas 2021 cruise on Arcadia so I might get to try out a balcony yet. The obvious problem for our circumstances, age and husband's heart condition, might make the insurance situation mean that we have to give up cruising anyway so will have to wait until November for new details. I am assuming that paying for an upgrade would not be treated as a NEW booking as this particular cruise was booked in January 2020.

Fingers crossed.

We decided to go for the refund as we already have a land based holiday booked for September this year and the same again plus a cruise booked for next year. This refund will be used to take the sting out of the final balance for the 2021 cruise.
