First Cruise?
So me and my wife were thinking of taking a cruise. What is everyone's favorite cruise destination?

Definitely somewhere warm and definitely not ex-Southampton.
Love the Caribbean but favourite cruise would be P&O's Barbados-Acapulco Panama Canal transit.

Re: First Cruise?
Welcome to our forum.. you will find loads of helpful people on here so ask away People's favourite destinations will differ greatly.. for me it is the Caribbean as I want 14 days of being completely laid back and releaxed and I love the sun, the beach and sea, snorkelling and the people. Wherever you choose though your first cruise will be magical and you will get hooked, so warn the bank manager of a significant decrease in the bank balance Let us know what you decide and enjoy

Re: First Cruise?
I don't like flying and we're not beach people, so somewhere with interesting places to visit - so port hopping round Europe suits us fine - Med, Black Sea, Baltic or fjords.
Places like Malta, Istanbul and Venice are must see sail ins

Re: First Cruise?
Our first cruise was a week to the Norwegian Fjords on Balmoral with FO - beautiful scenery and you don't need to take the ships excursions as everything is on your doorstep.
We liked it so much, No.2 was a P&O tester followed by a world cruise round South America to Australia and back!
Now we can't stop - off on the 10th Jan round the world on Arcadia.

The Turkish coast with a selection of the Greek Islands, ideally with Istanbul as the Gateway Port.

Re: First Cruise?
We always think a week up the Fjords in the summer is a good starter cruise. Scenery is fabulous, only a couple of sea days so no chance of cabin fever, long enough to get into the swing of it, short enough that you won't have wasted too much of your life or your money if you hate it.
Wherever you choose, enjoy and welcome to the forum.

Being at sea! That said, our next cruise has more port days than sea days, but it's to the Caribbean in 7 weeks, so the weather will make up for that.

Fjords for a first go
and pick your ship and cruise time carefully, depending on if you have or like kids

Our first cruise was up the Mississippi to New Orleans, our second up the Amazon. Our favourite cruising area has been the Indian Ocean.
But pick whatever you fancy - the world's your oyster. And have a great time!

Mapaly
yes they do have draught bitter as part of the package, if you google Thomson Deam/Majesty drinks menu, it will give you a good idea of what's on offer
I am not sure if the final menu has been sorted out for the Discovery yet or not, there is a facebook group for the Thomson Discovery if you need more info, lots of folk have cruised on it, in its current form as Splendour of the Seas

For us it's anywhere from the UK
Can't be really doing with airports and flying anymore.
I'm quite happy to re-visit places as well.

Re: First Cruise?
Best advice has to be don't try anything too long for the first cruise. I was amazed how many people on board Arcadia at Christmas were first-time cruisers. I ask you - 23 nights in the middle of winter with two transatlantic crossings ?! It is going to be absolute hell if you don't enjoy the sea days or, even worse, suffer from seasickness.
My suggestion is try something in the summer, say for 7 or 10 nights. Maybe a trip from Southampton to the Iberian peninsular or perhaps a fly-cruise to the Med. That's what we did for the first time. Then, if it's not for you, it's not the end of the world and you can put it down to experience.
Of course, if you intend to become a seasoned cruiser, it helps if you are a serial moaner !!

Re: First Cruise?
I think one-night repositioning cruises are a good way of seeing what cruising has to offer, and also to experience different ships
