Beaches on Martinque
We are shortly to embark on Adonia and one port of call is Martinique. Where are the recommended beaches and how easy is it to get to them?

I'm afraid this will be a very vague answer as we didn't take much notice of the beaches in Martinique as we did a taxi tour which took us into the rain forest instead (taxis not cheap and they quote in Euros as it is French or in US Dollars). We were on Ventura and docked at Fort de France. As you are on a smaller ship you may dock somewhere else. If you dock at Fort de France you will see on the right a ferry going back and forth across the bay to Pointe du Bout. A couple we spoke to who were keen snorkellers used the ferry and used a beach near where the ferry docked. The said the ferry wasn't expensive and ran reasonably regularly and the beach had good facilities and they enjoyed their time there.
Martinique was totally new to us and we enjoyed it - Fort de France is very built up so it was nice to get out into the countryside. The tour included the inevitable Rhum factory visit.
Also, be aware that the Caribbean is suffering from a daytime mosquito which has been causing a nasty disease - it sounds something like Chikungunya so make sure you use repellent as it is quite widespread throughout the Caribbean.
Have a great holiday.

Thank you very much - some useful information and we shall definitely watch out for the mosquito - it sounds nasty!

How did your visit to Martinique go. It's years since we called there but we have it scheduled for our P&O cruise in 2017.
