Kuala Lumpar

Please can anyone advise if the US dollar is wildly accepted in KL. We have been informed by PO that we will need Malaysian Ringgits but have no idea how much to change so would rather use US dollar if possible.

When we went in 2012 ' MvArcadia ' advised ...

" Malaysia, including Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Port Kelang and Kuala Lumpur: The Ringgit is usually sold onboard Arcadia. The "Guide to ..." leaflets are silent on preferred currencies so it might be wise to buy Ringgits or look elswhere for advice."

Various Members advised that the $US is acceptede but as we did a full day P&O trip I cannot say how widely that may be.

The Port, by the way, is a 2 hours-ish drive to KL and my advice is to also book a P&O trip, best be safe than sorry.

At the time I wrote ...

Kuala Lumpur involves a boring drive to the City and we chose a P&O three hour walking tour of this City plus lunch to savour the flavour of the food and the various communities, it was not to be our overall favourite. Going up KL Tower is ok but hardly life changing. Glad we went but will not be in a hurry to return.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Thanks MOB. We have booked the KL OYO tour as we wanted to do things at our own pace and have a nice lunch.

We just don't want to have much Malaysian currency left after the visit. We will book the towers visit on line before we go so just need enough for lunch and a bit of local shopping.

It was mainly around the Petronas Tower area, but yes. Our son regularly visits KL from his home in Ho Chi Minh City and he always uses $s.

Have been to Kuala Lumpar many times with P&O and my strong advice it to get a cab at the cruise terminal for a tour of the city, they are very well organized at the terminal and you can always double up with an other couple to save cost. Make sure you go to the war memorial, im sure you will have a great day in this fascinating city. The cost of the cab is about 75% cheaper than a tour from the ship and i just know you will enjoy it so much. Make the most of it.

Sorry, forgot to say you will need local currency, if you chose the cab option you can pay that in US$ and that will be a fixed price as there is a man organizing it all at the terminal.

Thanks for the info. We have booked the ships tour KL OYO. Not expensive at £26 each. We looked into the cab option but that worked out more expensive by quite a lot. We have a long list of things we want to see in KL so will probably use cabs once we are in KL.
