Likewise! We love Norway, but have not been there for several years, and never before to Flåm. Also looking forward to using the seawalk to get ashore at Skjolden, they didn't have it when we were last there.

I think scambling around glaciers would be a bit risky for me. We were due to be there almost exactly 2 years before this years trip, but I broke my ankle 2 weeks before sailing and had to cancel.
It is now - as my daughter insists on calling it - "well screwed" *. I can still walk for miles on level surfaces, it just doesn't like 'off roading'

Starting to get excited now: the e-tickets appeared on line today!

* She claims she means the ones holding it together :-)

Does any one fancy walking across a Glacier ??
Hi, We will be on the P&O Cruise R414 to Norway in August 2014.

We will dock at Skjolden on the 27th August. We have found the best and most impressive thing to do while we are there. We can go on a Glacier hike, actually set foot on a glacier!! P&O only offer for you to see the Glacier from 2 miles away – not very impressive but these folks (http://www.icetroll.com/boathalfday.) will actually take us by Motorboat to the bottom of the Glacier and then hike across it. The cost of this is only 750 Kr each (around £75 sterling)

P&O offer a trip on a coach for you to see the glacier from 2 miles away, which costs £ 43.

We can get the guides to collect us from the port at Skjolden and drop us back. Please see the website link for what is involved.
They can take 8 people in their mini bus. So there is room for another 6. The cost of a taxi will be around 7,000 Kr (about £700 sterling) more expensive then London. However they will do a mini bus for 3,500 Kr (350 sterling) return trip.

This would work out for all 8 people at 438 Kr (about £ 48 sterling) the total cost of being collected from the ship, taken up the mountain for an hours drive through spectacular scenery, then onto a motor boat across the Glacier lake and then actually hiking up across a Glacier could be yours for around £ 119 per person (1188 Kr). It's a bit more expensive but what an experience eh ?

If you fancy joining us, please post a reply or drop me a pm

Cheers

Don & Jan
