Azura does not appear to be having much luck with this cruise. We'd like to advise you of some very sad news. A bus operated by a shore excursion provider was involved in a collision in Dominica on Wednesday lunchtime. The bus was carrying 12 passengers, including 10 guests from Azura. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
One passenger has sadly died of their injuries. Another 9 passengers were injured and treated at a local hospital, with the majority now discharged. The names of the guests involved in the incident have not been released. P&O Cruises representatives are on-site at the hospital to support the injured. Next of kin have been informed.
We have activated our Care team to help those affected by the accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this tragic event. Our employees and crew are working to do everything we can to extend support and assistance to those affected and their loved ones,” said P&O Cruises Senior Vice President, Paul Ludlow.

Re: Excursion Accident
Tragic news David but that's life, if we all dwelled on the Titanic disaster none of us would go on cruises would we ?, there were 57 people who boarded a tram in Croydon yesterday morning not even thinking that they would be killed or injured.
My motto is "enjoy life while you can" today may be your last one.

Absolutely tragic, and a similar thing happened when my son was on a Celebrity cruise a few years gao - again with a fatality. Considering the state of many of the buses in the Caribbean, it isn't surprising, but an awful thing to happen nonetheless.

Re: Excursion Accident
Very sad news. David - why do you say Azura is not having much luck with this cruise? What else has happened?

She "broke down" in the Azores and had to spend an extra day in port while they flew some parts out.AnnCAgain wrote:why do you say Azura is not having much luck with this cruise? What else has happened?

Re: Excursion Accident
Very sad news indeed, and I am sure all our thoughts go out to all those effected by this unfortunate accident.
The cruise industry is huge, so more and more trips on land are being taken, but thankfully. seldom do these accidents, where a passenger has sadly died, happen.

A horrible thing to happen but, if the 'buses are anything like those on Tortola then they are an accident in waiting !

Re: Excursion Accident
I have to say, it does look a bit of a mess - and a "proper" mini-bus too

This is a tragic event and I'm appalled by the people on Facebook who, with no more accurate information than we have, are using it to have a pop at cruise companies in general and P & O in particular. They should be thinking of those affected by this event rather than airing gripes. Very sad.

Sadly that is the nature of Facebook and one of the many reasons why I will not use it.Mervyn and Trish wrote:This is a tragic event and I'm appalled by the people on Facebook who, with no more accurate information than we have, are using it to have a pop at cruise companies in general and P & O in particular. Re: Excursion Accident
Whilst reporting this horrible accident, the Daily Wail felt the need to point out that Azura has a "deep clean" in 2012 following an outbreak of noro. Why? That is as relevant to this tragedy as telling us that the Chief Engineer has hemorrhoids !!

Re: Excursion Accident
Typical journo has no understanding of noro. Nor the fact that there can't be a cruise ship afloat that's never had it. They just search their files and Google for anything they can find to pad out the article

Re: Excursion Accident
If the last Noro outbreak on Azura was over 4 years ago then that is something for the ship to be proud of.

Re: Excursion Accident
The article in the Wail has focussed something that was nagging in my mind and made me look back at the original statement. That is the point that there were 12 passengers on the bus, but only 10 of them were from Azura. Some FB commenters, including some quoted in the Wail, attack P&O with comments about high prices and poor standards. But if there were other passengers on the bus was this actually an official P&O tour or an independent one? I really can't work it out.

Re: Excursion Accident
My take on that was that there 12 on the bus - ten P&O passengers, the driver and the guide.

Re: Excursion Accident
Maybe. What made me think is the Mail describes them as "two other tourists " but that of course may be wrong.
