Corinth canal
Hi everyone
Am on the Aurora in late October and we visit Malta and Athens.
Two of the suggested excursions are missing from the cruise personaliser, these are for Malta the Medina and the hidden gem Palazzo and in Athens a transit of the Corinth Canal.
Has anyone either done the excursion or visited these places.
Pondering if P and O are not offering these excursions of doing it by yourself.
I have e mailed P and O to find out why they have been omitted.
Thanks
Lindsey

Re: Corinth canal
I know Malta like the back of my hand Lindsey as my Brother lived there for over twenty years before retiring.
For 'the Medina' you probably mean Mdina the walled city. no need to do a tour for this, just get on the bus, either the local Arriva one or the HOHO.
It's certainly worth a visit and I can highly recommend a coffee and slab of chocolate cake at Fontanellas, overlooking most of the island.
The Pallazzo is also just a walk in but I'd recommend that while you are in Mdina, take the short walk down to Rabat and visit the Catacombs and St John's Grotto.
Can't help with Greece I'm afraid.

Re: Corinth canal
We did the Corinth Canal a few years ago. From memory it is about two hours from Athens. Whilst interesting, especially if you have not done it before, it is nothing like it used to be 20 years ago when you went up/down the Canal in a little motor boat - H&S have become involved and spoiled it (as usual)

Re: Corinth canal
From Valetta there is a ' Harbour and three Cities ' Tour, I would suggest that as an option.
The Canal in a bobbly boat is good fun but these days is probably little more than putting a tick in the box.

Hi Lindsey,
I thought this video sums up Mdina pretty well.....not sure if you can hire the scooters but have fun anyway.

We visited some years ago and enjoyed our time there.....its called "The Silent City" which becomes quite apparent when you find yourself 'lost' in some of the narrow passage ways.....well worth a visit.
Regards
Keith

Re: Corinth canal
you don't need a tour for that - the 3 cities ferry goes from beside the liftManoverboard wrote: ↑10 Apr 2018, 12:47From Valetta there is a ' Harbour and three Cities ' Tour, I would suggest that as an option.

Re: Corinth canal
We did the canal trip many years ago & found it fascinating (partly due to visiting years earlier on Interail). You cannot imagine the scale of the construction task. There are clear indicators of early workings. If the trips follows our plan you are taken by bus to the southern end of the canal and board a small cruiser which takes you through the canal. At the north end (Loutraki) there is a road crossing the canal. The road sinks below the surface to allow your boat to cross. We had to wait at the north end of the canal for our turn to transit in a southerly direction.
I think light refreshments were served on board.
We saw kingfishers whilst transiting the canal.

My review of our 2016 trip, including P&Os Corinth excursion is here

We thought it was a great day out and pretty good value, considering all the elements
