Well Now We Know
... it is to be called Iona.
Looks like the latest cost cutting exercise - four letters, just think how much that will save

Re: Well Now We Know
As a name it's ok, but seems an odd choice as there's no link between P & O and Iona. It's not even a port that they've called at before.
I feel slightly nonplussed by the name.

Re: Well Now We Know
I believe Iona is the name of a Scottish Isle so I don't see any connection to previous ships namings but I'm sure all will be revealed eventually re the choice.

Indeed Moby I just find it strange P&O have moved away from the names such as Aurora, Adonia, Ventura etc which all suggest a connection to the sea or from Greek mythological names which also appear to have sea connections, I guess Iona is an island in the sea so there's a connection to the sea but it's very loose !! there may of course be a Greek goddess named Iona but not one I'm familiar with.

Love the idea of Iona being a cruise port. If the new ship was placed between Iona and Mull you wouldn’t even need a ferry....you could just walk along the prom deck.

Re: Well Now We Know
The new name is not quite as eye catching as Britannia, lets hope that conversely the new ship is far more spectacular than bland Britannia.

Look I think the Royal family have taken diversity far enough without any of them marrying Mrs Krankie!

I could begin to develop a complex with you regularly ridiculing my views about bland Britannia, but then I thought perhaps someone who spends so many holidays in Madeira really does consider that Britannia is a bright, jazzy, up tempo cruise ship with a wow factor.

The thing is John that bright, jazzy, up tempo is precisely the description of cruise ships I don't like. I prefer elegant, classy and understated. Like Britannia.towny44 wrote: ↑25 May 2018, 12:50I could begin to develop a complex with you regularly ridiculing my views about bland Britannia, but then I thought perhaps someone who spends so many holidays in Madeira really does consider that Britannia is a bright, jazzy, up tempo cruise ship with a wow factor.

I am very underwhelmed with the new name - but still look forward to sailing on it.

Re: Well Now We Know
Don't get me wrong Merv I would rather be on Britannia than not on a cruise at all, but it's not my first, or even second, choice. Which is a shame because its prices are generally the lowest, which sort of proves my point about its popularity.Mervyn and Trish wrote: ↑25 May 2018, 17:34The thing is John that bright, jazzy, up tempo is precisely the description of cruise ships I don't like. Love to have a look around those construction sheds, they look massive, as does Iona.
Don't worry, be happy
