G029 - Christmas - Portugal & Canary Islands

#1

Post by Jan Rosser »

Well I've gone and booked Iona for Christmas 2020 :!: Family phoned while we were on Oriana and had priced Christmas on Iona - school holidays matched the dates and cabins available so booked on board - low deposit (£50) and free coach and some OBC - well couldn't refuse really

My son's in-laws weren't keen to fly to the Caribbean again and as there were no 4 berth cabins available on Britannia it was a no-brainer really. We've booked outside cabins - the family have an inside just opposite. There were single cabins available but I'm not a fan of them and on Iona they are in funny places. The single supplement horrendous as usual - 80% but I am saving over £600 by going for an outside rather than a balcony and I feel I may not use it as much as in the Caribbean - my son's response is that the saving will pay the drinks bill :lolno:

If time flies as quickly as it seems to these days I'll be packing soon ;)

Good choice Jan.

It will be chilly until Madeira anyway.

Little point in paying for the balcony if you'll get little use from it.

We did outside on our last cruise and being out of season, didn't really miss it.
Empty vessels .. and all that

We'll be interested in feedback on the ship. Still in two minds about her.

I think David and Dai are sailing on her before me Merv so I too am waiting to hear what she is like. Only difference for me though is travelling with the family who will be using different facilities nevertheless I'm willing to give it a go ;)

I'm tempted to try one of her Norway Fjords cruises earlier in 2020 - I'm sure there will be a few bargains to be had once she has launched - it's a big ship to fill

Yes, she is a biggy Jan. Notice you don't get the option to configure your bed for either double or two singles. This is because the cabins are so small they are all now bunk beds.......and you have to supply your own ladder ;) :D

You may be one of the first from the forum to sail on her Welshy, so please let us have a full review once you're back.
