Warner hotels
Well I have bitten the bullet and am off to Warners in the morning.
I have had a very stressful 8 weeks with my elderly father and desperately need a break.
So with a little trepidation I have booked a 4 night stay. Have upgraded to a balcony room to give me somewhere to sit out in fresh air away from other guests if it all gets too much.
Having read the reviews since they reopened with the restrictions i feel comfortable with the measures they have put in place.
Only drawback having to travel on the train but have my masks, hand gel and clinicell wipes.
Will let you know how it goes.

Re: Warner hotels
Have a lovely time Lindsey - my friends went to a Warner hotel last year and it was something we'd planned to do together this year but then the virus came along. Caring for our 97 year old mother has left my sister and I really drained and coupled with living on my own I just need a change of scenery and company. Stay safe Lindsey

Re: Warner hotels
Sounds like a good idea for a break but how, may I ask, do you get from the railway station to the venue ?
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

My own thoughts related to the possible Covid risk of using a taxi and if a lift from another family member was the plan.david63 wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 10:41Probably by taxi - if it is not within walking distanceManoverboard wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 10:14but how, may I ask, do you get from the railway station to the venue ?

Re: Warner hotels
We used a couple of taxis last week. We wore masks, one driver did the other didn't - felt safe. Being the local taxi company I use their app so was able to make payment by card so no interaction with having to pay.Manoverboard wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 10:56My own thoughts related to the possible Covid risk of using a taxi

Re: Warner hotels
I'm staying at Alvaston Hall in Nantwich.
So train through from Swansea to Crewe station then a taxi to Alvaston Hall.
It takes about 15 mins depending on traffic. There is a station at Nantwich but no taxis.
Happy to pay by card infact at Alvaston hall they have set up an account for you where you pay by card at the end line the cruise. No cash taken.
Like you Jan I'm just drained, the carers have just rung through this morning about something ,my brother can take over next week, trouble is he lives in Wiltshire but he is visiting on Tuesday to take dad at 93 to see mum 90 in her care home. Due to covid they havnt seen each other since lockdown.

Re: Warner hotels
We would be happy-ish using the village taxi because we could pay him over the waves but also because he doesn't cart the youngsters about to and from the late night venues ... risk for me is therefore much reduced.david63 wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 11:06We used a couple of taxis last week. Lindsey, did you notice if there were many w/c users in the hotel, and did you think it was w/c friendly?

Re: Warner hotels
Short report on my 4 nights at Alvaston hall.
Instead if checking in at reception they have built a wooden cabin at the entrance and this is where you are met by a member of staff who come to the car. You are given your check in pack which includes your door key and charge card. Instead of cash it's now like the cruise all charged and you settle at the end of your stay by card.
No porterage unless you are unable to manage and then they will assist you.
Rooms available for 3pm but you were welcome to sit in the fountain bar and order lunch. I had a signature room which includes toiletries, soft drinks and nibbles and fresh milk in the fridge. The friend I met up with had driven and we had taken some of own wine for the fridge so we could sit on the balcony and have a glass and we left the empty bottles and nobody said anythiyg. All the extras are topped up every day.
Main difference is the restaurant, where you are greeted and escorted to your table you cannot now pre book your ta le. It's all for covid track and trace. The menu is less extensive but all cooked fresh. No salad bar or carvery. This is a major improvement as the food was the best we had ever had. Minor drawback not much salad on the menu.
Breakfast the same all cooked fresh to the table but it seems that with all the breakfast elements, juice, toast etc it takes quite a while you need to allow an hour for service.
Quizzes and entertainment went ahead. In the main entertainment area acts went ahead as usual and we had an opera singer one night, a bit like Katherine Jenkins she was very good. Another night it was the 3 Warner singers. In the previous few weeks a stage had been built in the grounds for the acts with lots of seating some under cover. Apparently they were dancing on the bowling green.
I felt very safe with all the measures put in place, you wore your mask in public areas and we only saw 1 person not wearing a mask and one lady was asked by reception staff to wear one,you could purchase from reception. Plenty of hand sanitiser stations all over.
The weather was so sunny it was lovely to sit out on the balcony.
I was so pleased with everything have booked to go again as dont wish to travel abroad at the moment.

Re: Warner hotels
we are planning a break - probably September or October.
At the moment, it seems that all hotel's menus are either pretentious or only offering pub grub ( ok for a couple of days, but not for a week).
I saw Warners and wonder if that is the middle ground, or more like School dinners?
At the mo, we are thinking of Cricket St Thomas.
Help!!
