Itinerary change

#1

Post by screwy »

e-mail from Bolsover to say that P&O have changed part of the Itinerary for our Azura cruise in May.

Azura cannot call at Hhvar, Dubrovnik and Taranto. These have been replaced with :

Bari, Split and Kotor.

As we’ve never been to any of them what are the thoughts of the forum.?

Apart from Dubrovnik I have not been to any of those ports so it would not bother me - unless there was some special reason for wanting to go to one of the original ports.

I've been to Kotor and if memory serves it is a very interesting port with superb scenery and there is a spectacular sail in. The best Montenegro has to offer.

It's good to visit some of the lesser known ports offering new places to explore. Geiranger, Rome and Dubrovnik amongst others were interesting the first (and second.....) times around but there are some good ports which P&O rarely visit.
We enjoyed a cruise with Cunard but I suspect they pander to the Americans who are keen 'to do' Europe so their itineraries are very much the same pulling in the major sites. I enjoyed the Cunard experience but their itineraries are hardly inspirational.

A shame Dubrovnik got changed. The ports are the reason why we choose a particular cruise. I don’t suppose for one minute P&O gave a reason why.

Apart from Split I haven’t visited the other two ports. If my memory serves me right we had to tender into Split and it wasn’t somewhere that overly impressed, but that was many years ago.

Imo Dubrovnik is a real miss, Hvar would have been worth a visit and Taranto is just a tick in the box but the three replacements are a real bonus.

Bari is a medieval fortified walk-a-bout and you should consider a trip to see the ' Trulli ' houses.

Split is a brilliant stroll about sort of place, tons to see there.

Kotor is at the end of a Fjord, both it and Kotor are really beautiful

The boy did done do well I reckon

we've done Split twice - first one a tender - which seemed strange since it's a very busy ferry port.

second time we docked. Loads to see within walking distance - just be careful of the road near the port - it's very busy

Kotor is well worth visiting, especially for the sail in as it's a bit like sailing in the Fjords. It's really beautiful. We sailed in on Oceana on a Sunday morning when it was sunny and all the church bells were ringing. It's somewhere I'd happily go back to.

I think P and O have done you a favour there.
Personally I prefer your 3 new ports of call.

Kotor is lovely called there when on Arcadia.

We appear to have got the same email from our TA. We are perfectly happy with the alternate ports, in fact on our recent cruise we heard a lot about Kotor, so are looking forward to it.
