Battery fire on Iona.
Bit of a concern with reports of a wheelchair battery catching fire in what may be the Atrium (not been on Iona) but the crew responded well by all accounts. Flames can be seen and a lot of smoke.
Don't worry, be happy

It was a miracle…. the wheelchair occupant was last seen legging it across the atrium
On a more serious note: this was posted on cruise critic…
We have a fire/bomb proof bag for my lithium battery on my folding mobility scooter. The battery has to be taken off the scooter and put in the bag as carry on luggage on the plane. Also, the battery is put in the bag when charging on a ship.

……
Considering the unpredictable of theses batteries perhaps the above should be mandatory on all public transport?

Changing tack .
Due to the storms hitting the Iberian coast last week,we couldn’t call into Lisbon but went to Cherbourg on Friday. We received the insurance letter for claims. Is it worth the claim.?

Going back to the battery incident - was it for real or an exercise? What looks mighty strange is that there doesn't appear to be many, if any, passengers about and in my experience the atrium of any ship is one of the busiest places.

Were you expecting passengers to stick around to take in the fumes David?….at least it looks like they saved the wheelchair
Thinking about it, it could have been a fire drill.

OL ,yes, but would they do that with passengers embarking may be for the first time. I would think it may be for real, otherwise it may spook vulnerable passengers with a nervous disposition.

My guess would be that it was between disembarkation and embarkation.
Why was the battery in the middle of the atrium? Why was there somebody, who just happened to be there, taking photos of it at all stages?

Re: Battery fire on Iona.
Certainly is screwy providing you have missed port cover.
We missed Lanzarote on our very recent Ventura cruise because of a so called ‘transport strike’ and put in a claim, and the very next day there was £300 (£150 pp) confirmed in our bank account. So yes, it is definitely worth it.

I have spoken to one of the glass house bar waitresses who we became friends with, she says the fire was a real incident.
