Re: Chest Infection
Ditto
Not quite a chest infection but I did get a terrible cold on return from Azura, which of course, I passed on to my lovely wife.
My son thinks it was from the plane.
Could have been the ship’s system but it appeared days after returning.
We were on for 16 nights so I think it would have surfaced sooner had it been the ship aircon.

"Upper respiratory tract infections are the most frequent diagnosis in cruise ship medical facilities, accounting for approximately 20%–30% of the Cruise Industry"

But is that any different to any doctor's surgery at this time of year? I think living in close quarters with a load of coughing old codgers has more to answer for than the air con which, certainly post Covid, has a very high proportion of fresh rather than recycled air.

Re: Chest Infection
I think that’s nearer to the truth regarding cruise infections…. most are carried onto the ship by passengers who have or are recovering from some form of infection. I’m not judging those that do because most of us would have the attitude that we’ve paid for our cruise and others must take their chances…. what is a snivelling cold to some turn into chest infections for others.Mervyn and Trish wrote: ↑13 Nov 2023, 19:01But is that any different to any doctor's surgery at this time of year? That’s cruising!

Re: Chest Infection
We came back off Iona 4 weeks ago, since then I’ve had a permanent runny nose.!
It’s the only thing that does run nowadays. Leg’s certainly don’t.

Re: Chest Infection
We hope you are looking forward to your upcoming holiday on board Arcadia.
During the last cruise, a number of people have reported to the Medical Center with symptoms of gastrointestinal illness. To control the spread of illness, we have proactively stepped up our already robust disinfection measures. These protocols were developed in conjunction with leading global health authorities and are designed to adapt to changing health situations.
As a result of these measures, embarkation will begin later in the afternoon , and we ask that you arrive 2 hours later than the arrival time published on your boarding pass. We thank you for your understanding of this matter.
so we cannot board until 5pm
lets hope if we feel well enough to go we can still find the ship then

Re: Chest Infection
Sadly Noro is, as ever at this time of year, rife in the community at the moment. Trish got it in Dunstable nowhere near a ship. So however much they may disinfect the ship as soon as one passenger boards carrying it then it is back. The only thing to do is take your own precautions with frequent hand washing and touching as little as possible (especially the other passengers). And get your Compo forms from Stephen filled in ready, just in case.

Maybe the AC is playing some tricks. I had a similar thing on a different cruise once.

We’ll never know Screwy.
My lad reckons it’s more likely the plane, but that’s just his opinion because he caught a chest infection without cruising.

Re: Chest Infection
First time we’ve flown in almost 4 yrs, other than COVID after a Ventura cruise 18 months ago this is my first chesty cough for a good few years.
BTW Barney, we thoroughly enjoyed Azura, food was very good, entertainment was Ok especially enjoyed the Scottish girl Michelle, thought she was excellent. Much prefer the bathrooms on Iona though.
And of course Capt Turnbull was his usual jovial self.

We were on in January and October and back on in January.
2024 on Arvia
2025 back on Azura
Plus any cheeky little infill cruises.
Seriously considering Lanzarote in March for a couple of weeks at a good AI hotel.
You may have guessed that I don’t like U.K. winters

Re: Chest Infection
I have recently had my first chest cough in eons and my last cruise was in July, so it can't have been the cruise. Since grocery shopping is my main trip out I can only assume it must be Sainsburys fault.barney wrote: ↑14 Dec 2023, 20:21Yeah, we like Azura as well.screwy wrote: ↑14 Dec 2023, 19:00First time we’ve flown in almost 4 yrs, other than COVID after a Ventura cruise 18 months ago this is my first chesty cough for a good few years.

Re: Chest Infection
As the doc would say, 'there's allot of it about'. I'm currently coughing my lungs up and our last cruise was in September.

Re: Chest Infection
I have come up with a simple way to avoid the coughs. colds, chest infections, noroviruses, coronoviruses and other nasty things picked up on cruise ships. I'm done with cruising, I'm never going on another. Guess I'll have to find another way to get ill.
