Re: Fire and Hire
Cruise lines have always used the…No complaints, take it or leave it employment strategy when dealing with third world cruise staff.

Re: Fire and Hire
Although in this case they are first world staff looking at the type of members that Nautilus has.
From that report, and who knows how true it is, Carnival are wanting to change some staff from effectively working nine months on and three months off within the year to working six months on and six months off. My understanding is that staff at that level are on permanent contract so they would not lose pay but I would guess that they get an additional allowance when at sea.

Re: Fire and Hire
From the flurry of activity on Faceache it seems the story may not be completely accurate. Carnival have gone into denial and suing people mode.

Re: Fire and Hire
Hi David, I was looking at it from a general perspective as to how cruise lines treat staff…. this being said, if your appraisal of what is happening then I would say that they are introducing a fire, rehire and disposable strategy. If this working model were to be introduced it would effectively make those staff redundant and unemployable for 6 months of the year due to them not being able to meet other employment requirements both from the length of employment and the administrative elements which any employer would have to meet in hiring them.
But hey! Who cares, its time to put up the Christmas lights

Re: Fire and Hire
I think you could probably count on one hand the number of potential passengers who would put workets pay above a cheaper cruise.

Yes but he still only has 5 fingers (or for the pendants 4 fingers and a thumb) on each hand.
