Christmas Markets R322 Gothenburg

#1

Post by Felix2 »

Our berth at the Gothenburg city centre was waiting for us but due to high winds we docked at the industrial port.

Again re arrangements for tour and shuttle buses to get to the new area. Thankfully the shops were open on this grey, cold and wet Sunday morning.

The shuttle bus took us into the centre which took about 20 minutes. A guide was waiting for us and we were given a somewhat soggy city map. We made for the shopping mall.

We wanted to buy something Swedish and went to the tourist info office inside the mall to ask where we could buy. No nothing here said the assistant.

Once we had orientated ourselves we saw an indoor craft market just behind the tourist office! We were able to buy handmade Swedish glass, a Valkommen sign crafted in wood and two bottles of Glogg to make drinks when we were home.
Oh the freedom to buy what we liked as opposed to the frustrations of weight limits when flying.

A couple of hours meandering and still the rain poured. Lunch was in a rather nice craft shop cafe and then we walked and walked as it had cleared up a little.

We came across an all female choir who were singing lively carols near the Central Station. I find the main railway stations in Europe such interesting places.

In need of a drink we found a hotel and enjoyed a couple of lagers before finding the shuttle back to Aurora.

Quite an ordinary day in some respects but it is good to have seen this attractive city - even in the rain.

The next and last port of call Oslo.
