Britannia Godmother
So who do you think will be Godmother to Britannia?
It would be nice if it were to be HM since it is called Britannia but who else would qualify?

Well, if not HM, it could be an HRH?

Re: Britannia Godmother
Zara has already done one (Oceana or the old Adonia, I don't remember which).
I'd go for the Duchess of Cambridge, though whether Carnival will go for that after she did Royal Princess I don't know. But since P&O is a "British" line and Princess is "American" I would have thought P&O had a greater claim to a British Royal.

Nothing wrong with being godmother to two, or more, ships - P&O already have a precedent with Princess Anne being godmother to Aurora and Oceana.

I was going to say the Duchess of Cambridge but thought that might be unlikely as she did the honours with RP, I don't suppose there's any reason why they couldn't do more than one though.

Re: Britannia Godmother
Sorry David, yes I realised that but not sure Zara is important enough to have two, especially when a future Queen doesn't have any in the P&O fleet. I think Kate would be a popular choice for the future generations P&O is trying to attract (if they can't get some pop superstar I've never heard of, that is!)david63 wrote:Nothing wrong with being godmother to two, or more, ships - P&O already have a precedent with Princess Anne being godmother to Aurora and Oceana.

If they can't get the Queen, Duchess of Cambridge or a pop superstar, I am happy to dress up as Britannia with a tin hat on, carry a trident and lug a shield around just to get a free cruise.Mervyn and Trish wrote:Sorry David, yes I realised that but not sure Zara is important enough to have two, especially when a future Queen doesn't have any in the P&O fleet. Not sure Maureen... but if it is the case, she needs to give her daughter a peice of her mind for calling her granddaughter 'Ventura'....how ridiculous is that?

Well, whoever the godparent is, I'd like to see a couple of our own forumeers invited along to the 'bash', and have a wonderful time (and of course nice weather).

What about Sheffield's own and poster girl of the 2012 Olympics, Jessica Ennis-Hill.

If it's not a member of the Royal family Jessica would be a popular figure.
Any reason why it's always a lady? Could we not have a Godfather? Hmmm!!! Too many connotations with violin cases and horses' heads maybe.

I think it would be nice if they asked Camilla - as potentially she could be our next 'Queen' -not sure what her title
will be if Charles becomes King.

Re: Britannia Godmother
Personally I think Camilla has too much baggage to be a universally popular choice. But I agree with suggestion above. If it was not a Royal Jessica Ennis-Hill would be a good choice. The Tinker wrote:I think it would be nice if they asked Camilla - as potentially she could be our next 'Queen' -not sure what her title

Or one of our gold medal rowers. Could be useful in case of technical failure!

How about another Dame - Dame Judi Dench - she always seems popular with everyone.

Re: Britannia Godmother
Sorry but I do not buy into all the hype about Jessica Ennis-Hill. Whilst I would not for one minute dismiss her achievements they are nowhere near those of many other Olympic/Paralympic athletes - perhaps the likes of Ellie Simmonds would be a better choice
