Ladies - tropical night what do you wear?
On our next cruise we have our first tropical night, OH and my two sons are going to try and get the most garish Hawian shirts they can find and shorts. But what do you ladies wear, I thought about getting a grass skirt off amazon, or should i get a dress or sarong? What to wear? any advice greatly appreciated

They may want to rethink the shorts for evening wear

Thankyou SueandPhil I thought it was for the evening is it just a day wear thing and then you still dress for the evening meal?

It is just for the evening but doubt that shorts would be allowed in the dining rooms. Most men wear tropical shirts, sometimes with a lei. The ladies I have seen usually wear a lei and a flower in their hair although this depends how much you want to enter into the spirit of the evening.

Loud shirt tied under the erm... protuberances..I have always thought it silly that they have a tropical night but don't allow shorts....mind you most Caribbean hotels insist on long trousers for dinner

If you do choose a grass skirt, make sure that the coconuts are big enough.

I just tend to wear a flowered or brightly coloured dress, and like another poster said a flower in your hair completes the theme

A lot don't bother to be honest, but Tropical night is the best supported apart from Black & White which of course is formal.

I wear a bright flowery maxi dress. We have a few leis from previous cruises as not all ships give them out now. I put a flower in my hair.
I have seen grass skirts worn in the Caribbean and some pax got changed into tropical gear after dinner for the deck party.
These should really be kept for the Caribbean or the hot August nights in the med.

I usually wear a flowery, brightly coloured floaty top over white linen trousers.

Julie usually wears a 'dress' style Hawaiian outfit with a belt at the waist ... loads of little tassles around the bottom (of the dress ... not around Julies posterior)

I wear a colourful maxi dress from coast for the tropical nights. I have never seen anyone wear a grass skirt

Probably not a grass skirt, as its evening wear. Most ladies wear bright flowery dresses or skirts or white linen trousers with a bright top and a flower lei round the neck. They sometimes give these out at dinner or at the tropical deck party after dinner, but not always so we take our own. Also as others have said, a flower in the hair completes the look. It's a lovely night and the deck party is usually well attended .

I wear white trousers and a vivid pink kaftan with a pink flower pinned to one shoulder. My husband has a vivid Hawaiian short sleeved shirt with palm trees and birds etc. on - got it from Ebay very cheaply. He wears this with chino trousers.

On the Aurora Christmas cruise, we had lei garlands provided at the table on tropical night but, if you fancy going prepared, I found these people on Amazon Marketplace to be very good:

The ephemera is just an added bonus. Mind you, it does raise a few good ideas for some different on-board theme nights !!Kendhni wrote:qbman, can you confirm the search criteria you were using to produce a listing that includes an Beatles wig, french maid accessories and an inflatable willy?

Hi everyone thanks for all your brilliant replies, I didn't realise that you dressed for dinner and then changed for the tropical night I assumed that it was the theme for the while night. as B&W night is. Have seen a really pink flowery maxi dress thing that I can get, so no coconuts required Quizzical Bob and the boys are going to sort out some shirts - think they are disappointed that they can wear garish clashing Bermudan shorts too really tasteful

Hi Babs, most ladies do wear their tropical dresses for dinner, I just think my dress isn't really suitable for a nice restaurant but is suitable for a deck party!

Hi Babs
I wore a brightly coloured maxi dress, and felt that not many others did at dinner, whereas up on the deck party it was almost like fancy dress, and I think quite a lot had changed between dinner and the party (which didn't start until about 10pm).

Thanks Shirley and Angela ooooh I didn't realise it would be that late starting Angela, do the tropical nights tend to be on a casual evening rather than a formal one?

Always smart casual Babs. I agree with Angela it is like fancy dress!
