Viking Star- My Digital Postcards

#1

Post by Solent Richard »

My wife and I have recently completed a cruise onboard Viking Ocean Cruises new ship, Viking Star.

Still in her maiden season I am delighted to report that this is a great ship with many new innovations and a rather pleasant way to cruise on a short port intensive itinerary.

There is just so much that is different about this ship but the greatest feature is the amount of space created for relaxation...

It will certainly suit those who prefer an 'all inclusive' style of cruising.

A minimum of one excursion in every port is inclusive, the 24/7 wifi is completely free with no Mb limits and all wines, beers and non-alcoholic beverages with lunch and dinner are also included.

There are two speciality restaurants, neither of which carry a supplementary charge.

Viking Star has two pools, one under a magradome and the other, at the stern, the first cruise ship's Infinity pool...

A full review of the cruise, from Barcelona to Rome, and with over 80 photographs, can be found on my cruise blog...

I'd be delighted to answer any questions.

Another big plus on Viking Star was the quality of the entertainment.

The Star Theater...

...had the ability to expand to take additional passengers.

These 'wings' at the rear of the theater also functioned as two HD movie theatres with advanced Dolby surround-sound features.

One reason that Viking Star offers so much additional space over more conventional cruise ships is the fact there is neither a Casino nor a Photograph Gallery.

Thanks for your review, I was very interested in that we are thinking of cruisiing with this line in the near future.

Thanks again.

My pleasure. I would probably give one word of warning. Like Viking River cruises the excursion programme can be very intense. I'd say a one week cruise is ideal and for a fortnight you may have to ease back a little unless pretty fit and blessed with energy.

I've just read your blog - thank you for such an excellent insight.

We did a Viking river cruise in 2014, and were very impressed, and I have to say that the Star looks to be a beautiful ship.

We'd certainly consider this ship in future.

I have one question - do you know how they deal with special diets? Any info would be gratefully received
