Upgrade Fairy Princess has landed

#1

Post by Mervyn and Trish »

Yes the Princess fairy has landed.

We've been sent an exclusive upgrade offer for our 2018 cruise.

Yes we can upgrade from our mini suite to a full suite for the bargain offer price of only.........

£1479

Per person.

Yes that's what we thought too. The clue is that the actual document attached carries the name UpsellOffer.

We quickly worked out that 2 × £1479 would buy us a 7 night cruise in 2019.

Still if they've got a surfeit of suites this far ahead and a shortage of mini suites they're trying to clear maybe the offer will get better later.

But if it doesn't we're more than happy with what we booked.

We had a similar offer a while back, also rejected, but ours was a mere £1,000 for the cabin.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

We had a similar P&O offer on Aurora a couple of cruises back. Got a phone call asking if we would like to upgrade to a mini suite or suite for the same price of £200pp. We of course accepted, but we went for the mini suite in the end as the suite was right up on the pointy end and didn't want to be pinned to the wall every time we opened the balcony door.

Slightly disappointed with the mini suite to be honest. Nice and roomy but looked tired and dated, and the daily canapés were   .

They have a whole dept for upselling now, and I think it's shared with Cunard. Recently we were offered - and accepted - an upgrade offer from Princess Grill to a higher grade Queen's Grill cabin in August, at an extremely good rate - I was asked not to mention the figure, but it was considerably less than quoted above. The silly thing is, I had literally just sent my TA a request to upgrade us at the "advertised rate" so we were more than delighted to save almost a couple of thousand.

I'd certainly consider a deal like yours Stephen, or even yours Moby. But best part of £3000? No way.

Not exactly the Bargain of the Year Merv. Not surprised you turned it down.

When the upsell doubles in price next week, you'll wish you had accepted today's offer. ;)

The days of the complementary upgrade look like they have long gone. So unless the offer is dirt cheap and the cabin position is as good or pretty close as I already have then they can forget it.

No I won't. We're very happy with the cabin we originally chose.

During the week, we had an upgrade offer from CMV, for our cruise at the end of August. It was £50pp for a cabin one grade up. In reality, it just meant a cabin of the same size on the next deck up. As we'd carefully picked our cabin, we declined the offer.

At least most of the lines now seem to be offering "upgrades" rather than just imposing them without telling you and you find you end up in a much inferior position to the one you took the trouble to choose. Mind you, after saying that, one of our table companions on Adonia last week arrived at check-in to be told they had been upgraded (although I could n't see a lot of difference between their original cabin and the one they were allocated). Only problem was, they ended up in the new cabin and their luggage ended up in the old one !!
