Two new ships for Fred

#1

Post by Gill W »

Fred Olsen are acquiring Holland America’s Rotterdam and Amsterdam.

The ‘new’ ships will be called ‘Bolette and ‘Borealis’.

The ships look Freddish already, so will probably be a good fit for Fred.

The speculation is that Boudicca and Black Watch will leave Fred.

Doesn’t look to be many balconies which means they will be expensive.? I would like to try Fred but the price puts me off.

I think Fred is quite expensive, but the onboard experience is good. I went on Braemar in 2018, and felt it was a throwback, in a good way, to when I first started with P&O in 2001.

However, I’ve accepted that a balcony on Fred is more than I would want to pay, so I’d only have a window.

We had a balcony suite on Fred's Braemar, it was certainly expensive but for us far preferable to sailing in a block of flats.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Nice looking ships. It's the lack of balconies that has always put us off Fred, as with Saga. Now we've tried Saga's new ship that's probably our preferred line for the future, whenever that is, but we'd give this a look. You do get what you pay for and although Saga was more expensive we thought it was worth it. But you can't blame P&O for opting to be competitive on price. That's where the big market is. And they are cheaper in real terms, for a much better cabin, than when we first cruised 21 years ago.

We have sailed on FO Braemar twice now. Last January going to the Amazon and this year to the Caribbean (different ports to P&O) and I can say we loved them both as others have said more expensive but for us worth the money the whole experience was very good. Entertainment was similar to P&O but we found the food quality much improved more like what P&O used to be. Although small we could always find a nice spot on deck also no rushing to get a seat for the entertainment in any of the lounges. The age profile was older this year in the Caribbean but not greatly. Overall it felt friendlier, as I said more like what P&O used to be.
I shall certainly be keeping watch for the two new ships and where they are going.
