Travel Insurance
Just had this email from Pee and Oh
They will now be checking your travel insurance at the terminal.
We hope you are staying safe and well while we count down the days to welcome you on board.
Just to remind you, it’s mandatory for all UK guests to take out comprehensive travel insurance for their holiday with us. While we hope you never have to use it, the policy will ensure you’re able to relax and enjoy your holiday with the peace of mind that you’re protected should you need it.
It is essential that you let your insurer know you are taking a cruise holiday. Your policy must include medical and repatriation cover of £2 million minimum that includes cover for emergency evacuations and medical expenses related to COVID-19. You must also ensure your policy includes cover for travel, cancellation and curtailment and full cover for any and all pre-existing medical conditions worldwide, or as a minimum, in the countries you are due to visit.
Your travel insurance documents will be checked at the terminal and must be valid for the entire duration of your holiday. Unfortunately you will be denied boarding, at your own expense, if you don’t have appropriate cover. You can find out more here.

We look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Re: Travel Insurance
I have just had the same email.
I can understand this with the possible impact Covid may have.
Not sure how they will check electronic documents!

We've had the email too. But I too am not sure what documents I have on my insurance provided by my bank that will help at check in. I have 18 months though to sort it out.

Re: Travel Insurance
I don't think they have thought this through properly, if there was a standardised format for travel insurance cover it might just about be practical. But to determine exactly what our policy covers would require sifting through far too much paper.
I hope they quickly recognise this.

Re: Travel Insurance
Not forgetting the extra time it's going to take at check-in.

Re: Travel Insurance
I agree Stephen. I can,t see them being able to manage a turnaround in the time from docking early morning to getting everyone checked in and ready to sail until well into the evening.

Re: Travel Insurance
I'm thinking the ship wont be sailing as full as before in the early sailings.
Wasnt their talk of it only being 70% occupancy.
I still dont think it can be done, checking all that paperwork.

Re: Travel Insurance
Out of interest do the bank's travel insurance specifically say that you are covered for cruising?

I can't remember but I have asked the question in the past and they said yes. It's a worldwide policy.

I don’t know nowt about cruising insurance but would it not be possible to have your insurance documents scanned either by you or your travel agent then forwarded to you cruise line. Once they receive your valid insurance certificate, they could then issue you with a coded card which could be scanned on arrival at the terminal?

I think I must be missing something here David... I would have thought most travel insurance companies would be able to turn around documentation within a couple of weeks giving ample time for cruise lines to process your insurance validity and issue you with your scannable card?

Re: Travel Insurance
P&O are also asking for things which are not actually on the certificate of insurance, even if you had a hard copy. Which would be presumably done on your home printer, which are one of the easiest mediums to fraudulently alter??!!???Onelife wrote: ↑10 Mar 2021, 21:58I think I must be missing something here David... P&O have said what will be required therefore I would have thought it your responsibility to ensure your policy covers what is required.towny44 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2021, 22:45P&O are also asking for things which are not actually on the certificate of insurance, even if you had a hard copy. They wouldn’t need a scannable card. Just a note of approval against your booking.Onelife wrote: ↑10 Mar 2021, 21:58I think I must be missing something here David... My insurance certificates are always paperless and run to several documents and lots of pages. The important information is in the schedule. They could be emailed to P&O beforehand but it will involve a lot of work for somebody somewhere.
In theory you might arrange your insurance on the morning of the cruise.

Re: Travel Insurance
QB does your schedule cover all the bits of info that P&O are asking for, I'm fairly certain mine doesn't.Quizzical Bob wrote: ↑10 Mar 2021, 23:17

Re: Travel Insurance
I haven’t bothered renewing our travel insurance this year for obvious reasons, but when i do and unless it is visibly included I will be asking for confirmation and written proof that it covers Civid 19. All the other requirements are usually pretty standard and found on the documents (depending on the level of cover you choose). I’m fairly certain ours arrive by email which I then just print off as required, usually only three pages at most.
If anyone falsifies documents, not only are you committing fraud but invalidating any cover should you need it. It’s certainly not something I am prepared to risk.
