Canary Cruise
I booked a C deck balcony cabin on Azura for a January 23 cruise this morning.
We have never done a fly cruise as we like the sea days, but, this year excepted, we usually take a Canary Island holiday straight after Xmas.
Mrs B welcomes the break after a busy trading Xmas.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Azura from Tenerife and the price was less than we usually pay for a nice hotel.
So, although it’s a long way off, it’s on the cruise schedule.

Re: Canary Cruise
We're usually in Madeira in November and March and we see a few ships that do a 7 night circuit including the Canaries as well as Madeira. Seems to me a nice way to escape winter.

Re: Canary Cruise
I see P&O are doing a series of fly cruises out of Tenerife, rather like the ones out of Malta.
We have a Canaries cruise booked but out of Southampton in February

Re: Canary Cruise
The amount of fly cruises about it almost makes me think Southampton is shutting down. I look at cruises thinking that’s a nice itinerary only to find it’s a flamin fly cruise AGAIN. I appreciate that some like fly cruises and for far reaching destinations they are necessary, but it does look like the balance is swinging more and more that way even for nearer to home destinations. No doubt it’s more cost affective for the cruise lines.
Personally I hate flying so if it keeps going this way my cruising days are numbered.

Re: Canary Cruise
There are a lot more cruises planned from Southampton than previously. The new MSC terminal will also host some NCL cruises plus others, and once Arvia is in service she will presumably be doing summer itineraries from Southampton.Stephen wrote: ↑03 May 2021, 07:55The amount of fly cruises about it almost makes me think Southampton is shutting down. There is a much increased demand for cruising nowadays, and a lot more berths, so not surprising that there are more offers being advertised.

Not sure about that. She is being promoted as a "sun" ship so I would be inclined to think that she will be based in the Med, possibly Malta (if Malta can handle a ship of her size) or, more likely, Barcelona where Carnival have a large terminal.

Re: Canary Cruise
I expect Azura will continue to do fly cruises from Malta, she already has the transfer itineraries from Tenerife to Malta scheduled in for Spring 2023, and Arvia has her return to Southampton in March 2023 in her itineraries.

Re: Canary Cruise
Madeira onwards is generally good.
Before that, lap of the gods.
We’ve done 3 or 4 at that time and enjoyed them all.

Re: Canary Cruise
We go to Madeira (land based) each year in November. We've yet to have a bad fortnight. The only issue with Madeira at any time is it's a verdant island in the middle of the Atlantic and can get a wet (even very wet!) day at any time. So finger's crossed the day you're in port will be a good one.

We did the Canaries in late October / early November 2010 on Azura and it rained virtually everywhere, including Madeira ... you did ask

Re: Canary Cruise
Bern on a few Canaries cruises at that time of year.
Mixed weather really. I remember one cruise where it absolutely poured down in Madeira and on another it was lovely.
It's mostly been pleasant weather nice enough to sit out or wander in the ports of call.
I would certainly book again for that time of year.

2010 was a dreadful year in Madeira. They had the terrible floods in February and then two more floods later in the year.Manoverboard wrote: ↑02 Jun 2021, 07:47We did the Canaries in late October / early November 2010 on Azura and it rained virtually everywhere, including Madeira ... you did ask

Ya, we could barely believe the carnage that was once a very colourful scene within the port area and indeed beyond. They fixed it up by our next visit but it didn't really look quite the same, to us.Mervyn and Trish wrote: ↑02 Jun 2021, 18:112010 was a dreadful year in Madeira.
