Drinks in Stateroom
Forgive my ignorance but I am taking my first cruise in October, on NCL's Epic. Although no longer stopping at Cannes and now going to Sardinia. However I was wonder if I'm allowed to take a drink back to my cabin, so I can sit on the balcony and enjoy the lovely med sunset. Also any tips for first time cruiser is welcome

Yes you can take drinks back to your room, you can also take a bottle back (although they generally prefer you to purchase the bottle onboard).
One of the old posters on this site, Derek Kane (aka The Monocled Mutineer) did an excellent write up for the first time cruiser. Somebody may have a copy of that.

I’ve never taken a holiday with NCL but would guess that they would be fine with it.
On P&O I usually take a wine box for balcony drinking.
Empty vessels .. and all that

Re: Drinks in Stateroom
No problem taking drinks back to your cabin that you have purchased onboard. At least not with P&O.
We normally have our cabin drinks sent ahead by lorry from home .
We take a box of red and white and a bottle of fiz. That’s not to say we don’t buy drinks onboard because we do, lunchtime and evening, but it’s nice to sit on your balcony and have a tipple
I don’t know what the rules are with NCL but P&O reserve the right to confiscate alcohol when boarding and going through security checks but we have never had a problem. Whether that rule still applies I don’t know.
I think providing you don’t abuse it there shouldn’t be any problem.

I’d forgotten about Derek Kane…good to hear about him again. We once sailed with him on Canberra, I think. I vividly remember him resplendent in striped blazer (navy, helio & gold, perhaps,) polished brogues and fibre hat as we sailed away from Soton. He used to take a case of wine on board and paid corkage as he preferred it to the stuff available in MDR. Derek used to make some interesting posts but I guess he ruffled a few feathers and eventually gave up posting.

Hi Macca,
I’ve got lots of tips but most of them will lead you to a life of destitution like wot I have to endure
It sounds like you’ll be spending a bit of time out on your balcony so my little tip is to take your own coffee, especially if you enjoy cappuccino/latte?. This is something we do and it makes a nice change from your cabin coffee.
Don’t forget your dental floss and do remember to take your binoculars.
Enjoy!

A little more info. But as I said in my previous post it shouldn’t be a problem providing you don’t turn up drunk with half a dozen bags with bottles clanking away. That might raise a few eye brows

Taking drinks in glasses to one's cabin is surely a H&S violation, I therefore recommend bottles either from home or a reasonably priced Port if landing is permitted.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Why a health and safety violation?

Every cabin we've ever stayed in has had glasses in it.

Taking drinks back to your cabin should be discouraged as far as I am concerned…before long you’ll have partying in the corridors.
I’m ok with Macca doing it but the rest of you should know better.

Re: Drinks in Stateroom
No problem but walking round the ship with them may be an issue for the cruise line unless all the glasses are made from plastic of course.

Re: Drinks in Stateroom
When we had vouchers through the Peninsular Club for free glasses of fizz John would go to one of the bars to collect them, bring them back to the cabin and we would drink them on our balcony when we sailed away from wherever we were docked. I never thought that was a problem.
