Re: WORDLE
I’m a great fan of palindromes. A man a plan a canal etc. was a favourite but now I quite like ‘do geese see god?’
Spoonerisms are also a good fun. I always avoid the Yorkshire Curd Tart if it’s on the menu -after a table companion on a cruise had a mishap ordering on an Aurora a few years ago.

Re: WORDLE
Got a ‘phew’ today. The dreaded 5 grey squares in column 1. Why is it never your first, or second or even third guess?

Re: WORDLE
Same here, and I had 2 choices left for my last try, both of which looked reasonable options.

Re: WORDLE
Did it in three - I was lucky to have the first letter otherwise there were lots of options and a phew would have been on the cards

Re: WORDLE
By the third attempt I had all the letters in the correct places bar the first one. Trouble then was there were too many options and it was pure luck that on the sixth attempt that I guessed correctly.

Not sure what’s going on today but not a disaster or outburst of frustration on any of the four puzzles today. All completed with rows to spare.

Got a ‘Magnificent’ yesterday. Don’t think I’ve managed that before. Have to buy a bar of bog myrtle soap to celebrate. We were on a jaunt in the Hebrides & the guide showed us bog myrtle and advised us to rub it behind our ears, in our neck & hands as it repels the evil biting beasties. It has quite a pleasant scent.

Re: WORDLE
Failed this morning, despite 3 green letters on attempt 3, there were just too many options.

Re: WORDLE
I managed it in 5 but had the same problem. I got all bar the first letter and there are so may possibilities for that letter. I looked at the possibilities and thought which word would an American choose, and I got that right! For those of you who know what the word is I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

Re: WORDLE
I've been using different starter words lately - real puzzler the other day when none of the vowels turned green - a Y saved the day!
I did today's in 4 but purely luck as so many alternatives - I could easily have failed.

Re: WORDLE
I’m beginning to think that these word puzzles defy logic - or at least defy the flawed thinking that my brain considers to be logical. Yet again today, on one of the multiple word puzzles, I made a silly mistake putting letters for a word that could never be correct (ie omitting a letter that was present) and from the resulting mess, I found multiple correct consonants. Heigh-ho!

Re: WORDLE
I thought I was going to do well today. On the second attempt I got the first three letters in the right place but it was one of those words that meant there were so many possibilities for the remaining two letters and I didn't even get it in 6 - failure!

Took me 5 attempts today but I had a lucky guess - I’m struggling more lately - I blame the Americans

Not unless they've bought the New York Times I think I'm overthinking sometimes and trying to think in "American" - both spelling and word wise - know what I meantowny44 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2022, 17:23Are you sure its not the French?Jan Rosser wrote: ↑31 Jul 2022, 17:12Took me 5 attempts today but I had a lucky guess - I’m struggling more lately - I blame the Americans

Re: WORDLE
Jan, I think I'm doing the same thing. I've also been thinking of changing my starter word but not sure what I'd change it to. My starter word has three vowels but I'm not sure how useful that it. Today I got the first letter in the right place plus one other letter and it did help me to get the first two letters in order but it didn't really help.

Re: WORDLE
Got a ‘phew’ today. A great grey column down 3&4 in the grid. I too moaned at the French as I keyed in ‘viola’ on line 4 the other day.
Are all of these word games equally popular? For some reason I don’t enjoy Dordle as much as the other three.

Re: WORDLE
Well done. Yesterday I managed to get all the letters in the right place apart from the first one by the third attempt. It took me until the final, 6th effort to guess the first letter, just too many options.

Re: WORDLE
The challenge Merv is to get it in less than two.
If you want a hint, look at David Baddiel’s tweet.

Re: WORDLE
With only one, albeit correctly placed letter in my first 2 attempts, I got a rather lucky splendid with my third word.
