Yes I agree prices are going up - I’m guessing it will still be “cheaper” to book early though

Re: New itineraries winter 2024
The Aurora 65 nights Amazon and Caribbean trip doesn't look as interesting as the Aurora South America Circumnavigation I did in 2018. I wonder why they've decided to restrict it to the Amazon and Caribbean. Apart from the amazing South American ports we did a full transit of the Panama Canal plus then the Caribbean before returning back to Southampton. It's always been a popular itinerary but for some reason they've changed it, a real shame.

I wonder if the more limited itineraries are due to cost cutting, I think it can be seen that cruising speeds have been drastically reduced, increasing the number of days between ports, which is especially noticeable on the longer itineraries.

Re: New itineraries winter 2024
We are sorted for 2024 on Arvia.
Standard Med cruise.
I booked the Azura repositioning cruise this morning for 2023.
15 nights
Fly to Malta
Fly back from Tenerife
Not a bad price for C deck
Very good OBC.
Something a bit different with lots of ports we haven’t done before.
Overnight in Valletta before sailing and overnight in Tenerife before flying home.
Flights in and out of Bristol.

Can they get any slower. On our last cruise in July I thought if we go any slower we’ll stop.

Re: New itineraries winter 2024
I went on a very good behind the scenes tour on Aurora where the Chief Engineer explained about the engines. One has to be running at all times to keep on board service running, and can also take the ship up to a modest speed. Running a second takes it up to, I seem to recall, around 15 knots. The third gives them around 18 knots and they need all four for full speed. So 15 knots uses only half the fuel of full speed. With fuel being the biggest single cost these days reduced speed makes sense and keeps fares lower.

Speed reduction has been the norm for years, it coincided with the fewer Ports visited
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Someone else on another site had said exactly the same. Fortunately in the Med and Caribbean the distance between ports is short and doable even at slower speeds.

Re: New itineraries winter 2024
It's most noticeable on the outward and return sea days. We took 2 sea days to sail back from Vigo and at times were only doing 10 its,, but on previous cruises it's been done in 1 day.
And on G501, Iona's 35 night caribbean round trip, it's taking 4 days to get down to Tenerife, and taking 7 days from Tenerife to Tortola, and 6 days back to Tenerife from St Martin, I'm sure we have taken only 5 or 6 days on previous cruises.

I'd rather that than up the prices to go faster.
