I'm always fascinated to see the Space Lab fly over, and always on time. It's incredible that it's thousands of miles away yet we can still see it.
I've always got my binoculars trained to the sky Foxy ( not on our next doors neighbours bedroom windows as Stephen would have you think)

My daughter called me outside a couple of weeks back and said "look Dad" skylab.....well spotted, daughter,...went back an hour later and it was still there  :) .

I tell you what Foxy with all the satellites and space stations floating above our heads it must be a little more difficult for would be ancient mariners theses days.

I signed up for the NASA notifications so get an e-mail when the Space Lab is due to fly over my postcode. I am always amazed at how precise they are with timings. I must admit I don't always bother standing outside in the middle of winter or when it is going to fly over at silly o'clock.

There are those who would see the expense of space exploration a waste of money..... l see it as mankind's survival.
Count me in for it being a total waste of money, the plan is to improve weaponry and absolutely nothing else.

We could however spend more on under sea exploration cos that's where life began ... .

We live on the very outskirts of the town and so have close to zero light pollution on the south side of our house. The sky looks absolutely amazing on a clear night. Like yourself we also get notifications about planetary and other celestial items of interest (I would like to say I signed up for it, but I didn't, someone else who has a habit of using my email address by mistake signed up for it).

But it won't be where human life ends if we keep looking to the skys....well that's the theory so l believe.

Isn't it about 220 miles away?

For those that are interested, there is continuous live coverage of Crew Dragon 2 on NASA''a YouTube channel.

We saw a live launch from Cape Canaveral in 2013, unmanned Mavern rocket to Mars. SS filmed the rocket coming over the trees, kept going for a while, and then as soon as he turned the camera off we heard it!

Absolutely wonderful to watch the launch from KSC. Sat watching for hour and a half on Wednesday, so close to lighting the touch paper when they called the no go. Only down side was the presenters, do they think we need every second with them talking, they could see a message from space control was about to come oveer, but still they talked over some.

We watched it on NASA tv last night. Our friends in Florida had a rather more distant view from their garden.

Well done to all the emergency workers in what was a traumatic event.
Unfortunately a big concern to how the hundreds of beach goers all stood shoulder to shoulder.

Chopping / pruning trees can be an expensive game so he obviously went for the cheap, yet sometimes deadly, option

Fortunately the tree I've been cutting up is laying down. Got a garage full of logs and still plenty to come from the tree. I'll be storing that at m-I-laws though as I spaced is limited at ours. I can now see why logs cost what they do. It's bl**dy hard work.

Just checked .... it's ok I'm still here

But on a more serious note I did once employ a tree surgeon ( at considerable cost ) to take down / prune four large trees in our front garden during a period that I used to use a chain saw to sort out the laurel bushes and lower branches of one's smaller trees.

I remember cutting back 20 metres of yew hedge which had grown to 4 metres....it was bloody hard work......It made me sweat just watching him :) ...its not so much the cutting, its getting rid of it that's the biggest problem.

I had a guy in just before lockdown to take about five foot off the conifer hedging (two sides of the garden) to make it more manageable .
He said that the cutting down was the easy bit (not for me it wasn't) but getting rid cost a fortune.
I don't really understand why it should, but concur with Onelife.

Anyway, it's made a huge difference, so glad we did it.
