P&O Facebook
It looks as if P&O cannot "stand the heat" as they have, effectively, removed the "moans" page from their Facebook site today.

I did say "effectively" - I know it is still there but it is not as prominent and only shows a few comments until you expand it.

Re: P&O Facebook
it's now called 'posts to page - on the lhs...
and the moans continue - back to 'select pricing' and 'Butlins afloat'...
the only way they'll stop that is to not allow comments at all!

Re: P&O Facebook
After watching 'The Complainers' the other night, I wonder why any company bothers with this form of media.
A few had a genuine grievance but most were just professional whingers and a few were clearly mentally unstable.
Facebook - no ta! - not for me.

Re: P&O Facebook
I'm not really surprised by this David.
I know the old P&O forum had it's bad points but by getting rid of it P&O effectively swapped a mostly positive forum, full of (generally) P&O devotees, for a form of social media that's used by a much wider spectrum of people for a whole variety of reasons.
One of those reasons is to let the world know when you are unhappy, and so the P&O Facebook page has increasingly become the P&O complaints page. The trouble is a Facebook page doesn't instill the same sense of community that a forum does, and so very few of the P&O devotees hang around on there long enough to offer an alternative/balanced view to those moans and groans.
If I was P&O, I would be moving as much focus as possible away from those grumbles too - and the reformatting of their FB page is exactly that I think.

Re: P&O Facebook
I seldom bother looking at that page,as it does nothing but re-enforce my already fairly negative view of the type of people which put me off re-booking with Pando
The sheer scale of the snobbery and pomposity on that page and the other facebook PandO groups, is a very poor advert for the company and if I were choosing a cruise, then based on the people present on Pando sites in general, it would be the last company I booked with
I can see why they have made it as difficult as possible to access the comments

It is not P&O who changed the layout of the page. It is an update on Facebook for all Business pages.

Re: P&O Facebook
Nowadays I only look at the site when someone picks up a particular thread. I got fed up with it when people were complaining about the Australian side of P&O or it was about a ferry crossing. If they don't don't know who they are having a go at to me that shows they just pick a name to have a go at.

Far too many moans and compo seekers on the P&O FB page. I rarely read the comments, unless someone alerts me to a real extreme case - like this week, re a missed port. Absolute comedy classic!

Re: P&O Facebook
So true, funniest one yet.. Apparently P&0 are to blame for not forecasting the correct weather . So the lady in question will not sail with them again. I did suggest that hopefully RCI, Fred Olsen or Celebrity would have better luck with the forecast - but no replyRomig1 wrote:Far too many moans and compo seekers on the P&O FB page. The best bit was when she said had she known what the weather was going to be she would have cancelled at check-in. She said they spent two days going around in circles!! As if............ Priceless!!

Indeed Foxy. It was unfortunate that it was a short cruise that missed it's port visit, but I'm sure the woman actually thought she would have got a refund if she'd been told they weren't going to get in and she cancelled at that point!oldbluefox wrote:The best bit was when she said had she known what the weather was going to be she would have cancelled at check-in. As is often the case, in such cases of unjustified complaints, the overwhelming majority response was ignored in favour of those who agreed/sympathised with her.

Re: P&O Facebook
I think that's where the old P&O forum won hands down over the Facecloth version. There were plenty of people with a more realistic view of what cruising is about. On Facebook the same moans are repeated over and over again in separate threads. Whilst I don't post there I do have a look in because some of the moans are so preposterous they beggar belief.

Re: P&O Facebook
I agree with what everyone else is saying - DTM has it right - they changed a reasonably good (well it had its moments didn't it), forum to Facebook, just full of people moaning. If the real reason they closed the forum down - and don't tell me it had anything to do with the efficiency of the web page - was to stop people posting messages for free when they were on a cruise - then they could have closed that loophole. Mind you, I'd rather have this forum any day. If P&O want to see how a forum should be run then look at this one!
I can remember all those times when you had to wait for ages to gain access to the P&O Community Forum and then to go from page to page, or thread to thread - well I used to have time to go and make some coffeee and still it hadn't moved. Long live this Cruise Community!

I would imagine fb takes far more monitoring than the forum ever did.

Re: P&O Facebook
I think the biggest problem they had with the old forum/website it needed to do everything - forum, bookings, help pages, personalisor, pictures etc, etc. The more you run on one system the slower it gets. What they really needed to do was split the pages up forum on one website, booking on another.
I did like the old forum and do drop into the Facebook one. However, I must say that since this one has been up and running I would not go back to the old P&O one.

Re: P&O Facebook
P&O do, and have for a long time, run their systems on different servers so that is not the problem. The problem, in my opinion, is that they are running systems on servers in both the UK and USA (nothing inherently wrong with that) and these are maintained by different teams which is compounded by the time difference, coupled with a lack of understanding as to what each is trying to do.Peter D wrote:I think the biggest problem they had with the old forum/website it needed to do everything - forum, bookings, help pages, personalisor, pictures etc, etc. The more you run on one system the slower it gets. I also feel that there is/was an element of "empire building" and that one area was not allowed to question another area.

I did not know they run it on two servers and your explanation makes sense, left hand right hand. You would think though that such a big company would get their IT right, but as you said empire building.

Re: P&O Facebook
I chuckled at a post on F/B P&O chat page nothing to do with the company, guy said he would have less than six months on his passport and why did P&O require no less than six months he was adamant that he was going to turn up at embarkation and he would get on board did cause a few heated conversations quite funny really
But some people do ask the most stupid questions sometimes, and most are to provoke a heated debate

Re: P&O Facebook
I can no longer find the 'posts to page' section on FB via my tablet. On the laptop it opens into a window that drops off the bottom of the screen and is very difficult to scroll down. If I click to expand a conversation it loses my place, and it's very easy to accidentally click on the outside of the box & lose it altogether. I gave up trying to find the thread mentioned above about a missed port.

Re: P&O Facebook
Angela, in their wisdom Facebook have changed the layout of business pages. I mainly use my IPad during the day and to find the P&O posts to page just scroll down a little from the top, just after the first picture, looks like Azura funnel, you should find the link. There is then an arrow just to the right to lead you into the post section.
