Webcam update time
So when it was the Grand Event I wrote a little program to record the webcams every minute so I could put it all together as a little video to show it all. The webcams used to update once a minute,
Today out of out of curiosity I ran my program again and noticed the webcams only update once every 2 minutes. Not a lot you say! But because the images are so small I would not have thought it would cost much but I am surprised that even these have been cut down.
Surely this can't be right when other cruise lines offer better quality images... How much money do they save by doing this?

Re: Webcam update time
It is not something that I have really considered - especially as it seems most of the time one or more of them doesn't seem to be working anyway.
I have no idea what the "load" is for downloading seven webcams and it may be down to technical reasons more than financial (although I suppose you could argue that they are one and the same)
In the majority of cases though I don't reall think that it makes that much difference, after all one view of the sea will be pretty much the same in two minutes as it will in one - likewise when a ship is in port, I know that there will always be exceptions (entering Venice, Panama Canal etc.) but personally it is not something that would worry me.

Every two minutes? Just recently Adonia's has been updating about once in 24 hours!
As you say often one or more of them are not working: - usually blamed on satellite strength - yet I have known two ships virtually alongside each other in Stavanger, where one had signal and one didn't.

Another example of the dubious excuse for webcams not working. Today Oriana and Oceana are moored bow to bow in La Palma. Oceana's webcam is working fine - and showing a good view of Oriana. By comparison, hers is not working - again due to 'satellite strength' (or lack of it), when the two can only be a few tens of yards apart!
