Forum Upgrade

Unread post by david63 »

There has recently been a major upgrade to the forum software which I need to implement at some point.

I am not sure when I will be doing this but I expect it to be within the next 10 days or so - I will advise a date when I have settled on it.

Because this is a major update it will mean that the forum will be going off-line for a while (up to 24 hours). I will also be taking the opportunity to make several other changes - the main ones being:
  • The site will be https instead of http at the start - hopefully if you enter http it will redirect you to the correct place, but it would be advantageous for you to update your bookmarks after the change.
  • Unfortunately you will have to log in again so can you make sure that you know your password.
  • I will be giving the forum a new fresh look.
  • The new software has been designed to be more responsive so it should work a lot better on mobile devices but because of this some of the features will be found in different places.
  • I will be removing the blog section from the forum as it is not really used.
  • The photo gallery may be delayed in being transferred over - not sure yet.
Once the updated forum is up and running I will post what the main changes are.

Watch this space.

Now that's the sort of post which when made by P&O usually resulted in several weeks of disruption and several years of moans.

Good luck with it David, hope you have your tin hat ready.

But just to start the ball rolling could you please post the following as you reboot the new version:

"Dear Sir.

This new forum is awful. Much preferred the old one/the one before that/Canberra.

Is your IT department completely incompetent or what?

Why change it when it's not broke?

Hate the new colours. Looks like Butlins.

Standards are slipping / dumbing down.

Did I mention Canberra?

You've ruined my on-line experience / my life. I will never book with you again until the next time at which point you can expect me to moan the entire time.

When can I expect my OLC (On-line credit) and compensation?

It never happened on Canberra (did I say that before?)

Yours sincerely

Your most loyal customer ever who should have been consulted first"

I trust the new improved version will auto delete all PMs which are more that 3 months old for Members who have not posted for the past 12 months ?

Could become a new rule, perhaps ' 4Q ' is available
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

But seriously this version of the Forum does appear to have a spell checker in that it underlines in red when I tripe badly!

David, most folk seem to have got their complaints in before the upgrade, so it should now be plain sailing for you, whatever the outcome. :sarcasm:

I assume you are referring to fly cruises, in which case it should be plane sailing. Your spell checker is clearly not working properly.

It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye cannot sea

When eye strike a quay
Right a word, I weight four it to say
Weather eye am wrong oar Wright
It shows me strait away

As soon as a mist ache is made
It nose bee fore two late
And eye can put the error rite
Its reel e, reel e grate

I’ve run this poem threw it
I’m shore your pleased to no
Its letter perfect in its weigh
My chequer tolled me so.

Sauce unknown?

no doubt Uncle 63 asked the developers that, but once an update has been issued it has to be implemented or the operation starts to malfunction

Because at some point this version will cease to be supported and if any problems develop they will not get fixed and the longer that it is left not updated the more difficult it will become to update. Also this new version is easier for me to maintain.

Basically nothing will change - all the posts will still be where they are now, and when you have used it for a while I think you will find that it is easier and quicker to use.

If you expect to have any credibility kindly spell Butlins with a capital letter like wot you did do with Canberra.

In my complaint re butlins / Butlins, I was taking it as a generic term (like hoover / Hoover), to also include pontins / Pontins, warner / Warner etc. Other offensive resorts /Resorts and comparisons to shipping lines for the underclass / Underclass are available.

Of course, knowing david / David it is remotely possible the upgrade might work, in which case my claim for compo may struggle, which is why I'm getting it in now.
