Scary news

Unread post by GillD46 »

Some of you may remember my excitement back in June when our second daughter announced she was having a baby in December, and again in July when she discovered the baby was a pink one.

On Friday baby Sophie was born, in a great hurry and 13 weeks early, weighing 2 1/2lbs/1100 gms. She is at UCH London on the Neonatal ICU, and so far, doing pretty well. They have managed to extubate her and she's coping just with CPAP. Caroline, who is now back home, has cuddled her a couple of times and we travelled up on Saturday to meet her - our first grandchild.

There is a long, and uncertain road ahead, it's bound to be up and down, but each day she does well, makes her better able to cope when the "downs" occur. Naturally we are desperately worried, so can I ask you to please say a prayer or send positive vibes - she is so very tiny and we love her already.

OBF has made the very best comment - stay positive. Think positive, be brave and strong for your family.

Thinking of you, and hoping that it all goes so very very well.

Congratulations Gill - I remember so well the excitement when my first grandchild was born - a little girl Olivia (now 12). My niece was born 11 weeks early weighing only a few ounces more than Sophie - she celebrated her 15th birthday last month and has grown up into a lovely young girl. Sending you and your family lots of positive thoughts and best wishes xxx

Gill, I'm so sorry to hear the news but reassuring that Sophie is in one of the best units for prem babies. My daughter's due date is a week today so I'm keeping my phone near and not going far from home. My best wishes to you and Tony as well as your daughter and Sophie. Do let us know how she's getting on.

Gill,

Lady Macbeth and myself are also waiting on our first grand child due in January. With our Lorain being 40 she is receiving constant medical supervision and up till now everything is "a ok".

We both hope little Sophie will continue to improve daily.

Best wishes to all.

Congratulations Gill. Hope baby continues to thrive. You may like to have a look at the story of little Daisy-Mae who was born at 25 weeks at 858g. Her father kept a Facebook diary which has now been made into a book with proceeds going to neonatal units etc. Daisy-Mae is now toddling and also has a baby sister.

You can find this by searching for Daisy-Mae Little.

We are due to be great-grandparents in the New Year ourselves so our thoughts are with you and your family.

I've just heard that my daughter was admitted to hospital this morning - baby's due date is next Monday, although according to my daughter it was yesterday. My other daughter is with her - getting everyone organised if I know her - along with her Partner. I'm due at the hairdressers in 30 mins so keeping my phone at the ready. Am both excited and nervous.

Gill, I hope your grandaughter is doing well and that you are hearing some positive news.

Oooh, exciting times, Carole - all best wishes for you and the whole family.

Sophie is doing well as she is, but they tried taking her off the CPAP and putting her on a slightly less supportive oxygenation system yesterday - she stopped breathing, so back on CPAP for a while. She has lost some weight, but as we all know that is normal for a newborn, regardless of gestation.

It's incredibly stressful, especially when told the statistics, but what will be, will be and we can't do anything about it.
