On this day in 1976 Shun Fujimoto wins an Olympic gold medal as a member of the Japanese gymnastics team. He had broken his leg during his floor exercise routine. He continued and scored a 9.5 on the side horse and a 9.7 on the rings.

On this day in 1545, the French invaded the Isle of Wight. However the French had little local knowledge and as the attacks were expected, local forces reached the high grounds of Bembridge Down to oppose them. The French had a long history of attacking the Island and this was their last attempt at capture.

Granted Cubie but I love her to bits, she is so natural and fame has not gone to her head. She really gave hope to rejected contenders on the Voice when she revealed that she was rejected many times and had to work in bars to make ends meet.

Gosh, we think we are having a bad summer but remember in 2007 torrential rain swept across large parts of the UK at the weekend. Hull was under water, but the flooding spread around the UK with Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire being some of the counties worst affected.

Thanks Ray - I shan't be seeing him - he is in Asturias northern Spain for a month (his wife is half Spanish and from that area) relaxing with the family.

Nice part of Spain to be spending a month Jan, our favourite Spanish vineyard is in that area and it is handy for the ferry ports of Bilbao and Santander. We are looking forward to our port day in La Coruna from Oceana at Christmas as this is one place we have always missed while in that area.
