Christmas Cakes

Unread post by suespud »

Well this is this years effort, and I have to admit it was an effort. Arthritis in the hands is so debilitating..it drives me mad !!!
So whilst the cake making was ok, the rolling of icing and fiddly bits were not :(
So I used as much ready rolled as I could and only tried to do the fiddly bits on a few, but then I gave in

Likewise! Well done, Sue; the only year I made (one) cake, on Boxing Day the family presented me with a petition, signed by everyone including the cat, begging me never to do it again.

This year, a Sainsbury's one gets very good reviews...

I have only made one - for my sister and her family. If I make one for us, we eat it - and it's best we don't! Same with the bouche noel. I made one for my sister and my eldest daughter. Not for us!

Before you think we are just TOOOOOOO virtuous, I HAVE ordered some VERY naughty M&S things that we will partake of!

I don't eat the Christmas cakes.. I taste the taster, but I'm not a Christmas Cake lover..don't like Christmas pud either..lol (although I love the smell of the soaking fruit)
9 of the cakes were fed with rum, whisky and amaretto (3 of each flavour) the othe 7 were fed with brandy.
Dark chocolate was grated in too, 75grms each cake.
3 cakes go to be raffled for local charities.
I take one to playgroup, cut it up into slices and sell for Grace House( children's hospice)
The other go to family members and some close friends.

Cheryl hasn't made any Christmas cakes this year with us being away and for the first time in our marriage she actually bought some mince pies on Sunday from Waitrose for family visitors. We don't normally shop at Asda but we called into one on our way home on Monday and I bought a gluten free Chocolate Yule Log which being so delicious has almost dissapeared.

We have a family full of baking and confectionery talent, Cheryl has always baked, our daughter is a chef and our daughter in law supplies Nottingham Forest Football club with all their celebration cakes. I also have a cousin who trained as a chef in The Ritz in London is now a chocolatier so its little wonder why I struggle to keep my weight down.

As Queen Marie Antoinette allegedly once said "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" ( let them eat cake )
