Bang goes my prediction.
Platinum Jubilee: A loving farewell for the Queen as well as a party https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61699950
‘This was also, alongside the partying and pageantry, a farewell to the Queen who after seven decades is withdrawing from public life.’

I don't know him as well as you do but I think that Stephen is definitely an artist.

When I heard he was a PA I assumed that meant he could type and do shorthand.

The Paddington thing was wonderful.Bensham33 wrote: 06 Jun 2022, 14:24
That tea she had with Paddington proves there's nothing wrong with head. That was magic, just like her exchange with James Bond in 2012. Her body may let her down but she is as sharp as ever.
I can't see her abdicating, but I think Charles will now do most of her public duties, with her just appearing from time to time if she feels up to it. I don't think this is a problem, as most people will be understanding. As you say her mind is sharp, so no doubt she will carry on working behind the scenes.
The final balcony appearance I found to be very moving. The queen seemed to be taking in the whole scene, probably thinking she will be unlikely to see anything like this again. Also, it was a clear signpost to the future. A slimmed down royal family, based on Charles, Camilla and the Cambridges.
I think it was also nice to see the Cambridge children. I think George looked quite serious on occasion, no doubt he feels the weight of his destiny on his shoulders. I thought Charlotte kept her brothers in line, nudging George to stand correctly and stopping Louis from getting too enthusiastic with his waving. I got the impression that Charlotte will be a great support to her brother in the fullness of time. And Louis - it was just fun to see him acting like the average 4 year old.
Overall, the Jubilee weekend made a lot of very different people feel happy, and that has to be a good thing.

I think you're right. The various appearances of Charles and William at key moments was a marker for the future and perhaps testing the water to see how people reacted. It went well and they played their roles skilfully. Having done 70 years, and dealt with the huge loss of Philip, I think HM will see it through to the end now , albeit less prominently. She's an inspiration.

We watched the ' Highlights ' this afternoon, the edited coverage was very good although we did space it on from time to time ... just loved the Paddington sketch

I also notice that Edward the Duke of Sussex and his wife Sophie seem to be playing a more prominent role, maybe as a consequence of Andrew's fall from grace and Harry's abdication of duties.
Princess Anne always works hard in the background without any fuss lending her support to the Queen, and no doubt to Charles when he accedes to the throne.

Re: Cheers to the Platinum Jubilee weekend!
I agree, it was a spectacular four days. The highlights for me were the balcony appearances, Paddington and Prince Louis' antics. Great to see him acting like a normal 4 year old and being passed along the line with everyone trying to keep him interested. Yes he could have been left at home but that would have been a shame. I agree too that we were shown the slimmed down Royal Family that will be evident in the future. I read in the Court Circular this morning that the Queen met the Chief of the General Staff at Windsor yesterday so she's certainly doing some things. I was watching the pageant on Sky on Sunday and Alistair Bruce, the advisor to Downton Abbey for all things historical and military, who was doing the commentary, suddenly said that the Union Jack over Buckingham Palace was coming down which meant that the Queen was there and he expected the Royal Standard would be raised, which of course it was. Even the commentary team sounded excited. It was wonderful to see and hear the reception the Queen got when she stepped onto the balcony. I hope the Queen thought it was worth it for what I expect would have been an uncomfortable few hours. I would think she did.
